"8.5 hours saved" in like a couple months of use... I've probably wasted more time than that cussing at it for breaking various active content.

this may be slightly anecdotal, but unless anyone has any incredible stories of G Web Accelerator performing miracles and saving lives, I'm ready to officially write this piece of shit off.

^^ Isn't this the same thing that was discussed about having a major security hole in it?

there was never a major security hole, as such, found. There were definately some bugs, though. Most noteably (early on, like within a day or two of initial release - i'm sure it's been fixed by now) some people when signed into something like a message board, when they refreshed the page, their sign-in name was shown as someone elses, although the functionality did not shows they were actually signed in as the other person.

That arose because Google was caching the pages that people were signed into, and serving those pages to the wrong people. Of course that had serious implications for personal pages like banks and credit cards, but i didn't hear of any reports of them actually serving sensitive data to the wrong people (probably mainly because they don't cache HTTPS traffic).

I haven't use the GWA, but I would say 8.5 hours, if that is true or accurate, is not bad. They're counting the load-time - considering most sites load in a second or two, that's a lot of sites and page views to get to 8.5 hours.

there are many, though, who think the GWA is really not so much about saving people a couple seconds here and there as it was/is the beginning of a much bigger plan. One that could be tied to a GoogleOS, or a GBrowser specialized to work with GWA. And even the recent announcement that Google wants to supply free wi-fi access to all of San Francisco. They haven't said anything like this as far as I know, but maybe you'd be required to download and use GWA or something like that if you want said free access. In the end, I think things like GWA are mostly an attempt by Google to control as much of the Internet's traffic as possible. They can analyze and study surfing and buying habits, monitor how you view and click on webpages, stuff like that - which, of course, makes it better for them to create and sell effective advertising to the end user. They guys at buygoogle.com have been following GWA pretty closely (well, as closely as possible with the minimal press it's gotten lately)
