What is the best (FREE) php based photo album out there?
I'd really like to be able to create folders and just put pics in there, then the php album parses my dir's and creates the web front end.
There are so many web albums out there I duno where to start, hoping someone can recomend a good one. oh yea I have MySQL as well.thx 10/17/2005 11:30:45 AM |

I'd recommend Gallery or Coppermine. Both require you to manually add the images to a particular album, but it's pretty much a no-brainer.
I used to recommend and prefer Coppermine, but after playing with the new Gallery v2, I am really liking it. 10/17/2005 11:34:31 AM |

I haven't really used Gallery, but I've been using Coppermine for a while and I really like it. 10/17/2005 11:40:41 AM |

How complex a gallery are you looking for? If you're looking for simple, I like LinPHA. Though, recently I've had issues with it's thumbnail generator. I haven't tried the newest version yet.

Gallery and Coppermine are good as well and are proven to work in a variety of configurations and environments. 10/17/2005 11:54:31 AM |

this is off topic but in searching for demos of the albums i found this site. Really cool idea:
http://www.opensourcecms.com/index.php?option=content&task=view&id=2080
has tons of webapp demos - "try before you download".
Gonna go with Gallery2 - got some hot features.
Thanks for saving me time.

While on the topic of Gallery, what are some of the "hot" features that you like? I apparently haven't found them yet 10/17/2005 3:45:24 PM |

^hah. just off the top - i really like all the different options they have when it comes to adding pics. Can parse a dir, java applet, java rich client, upload zip, ms active x shit like that. Thats what really "sold" me. Plus the number of quality plugin's.

ok yea i like being able to pull them directly off a directory. the autocomplete made me shiver with joy. i need to look at the plugins, apparently i missed the ones that didnt come with it. i like the mod_rewrite one a lot. 10/17/2005 4:22:41 PM |

yea the autocomplete is tight. I really liek the UI and even the ability to change default image sizes when you are just viewing one. (and can use a pulldown to see at different res').
As for the plugins - I saw one that is a java app slideshow, and another one that creates preview images for uploaded movies both were somethign i was lookign for. 10/17/2005 4:27:02 PM |
