Windows is giving me a message that my OS is not found. Is there anyway to get the information off my hard drive before I reload the OS? My comp is under warranty through Best Buy on parts so i can get a new hard drive but i'll have to turn my old one in? Can any one help or know of a professional that can help?  10/17/2005 6:17:53 PM

^^^ if dead, the freezer /might/ help
didnt do anything for mine, but I've heard some people have had good sucess with it
google 'freezer trick' for more info
if it's just a windows flop and you have a desktop, go ahead and get a new hdd and hook your old one up as slave
install windows on the new one and see if it'll read your current drive
^ Norton's Ghost wont help much if you cant boot to windows
I think the version before 9 let you do backups off the livedisk, but I'm pretty sure ghost 9 took that away
that, or its probably easiest to go download a knoppix live disk and see if it'll read your drive, if it can you can burn cds/dvds to get your data off.. 10/18/2005 1:00:38 AM |

There are other options as well. If the data seems corrupted, but you feel the drive is in good physical condition, give me a shot at recovery of data, there is always a way!(I'll go with the $50 dollar quote too)
there are a few programs you can buy and use yourself if you want to.
1) they require you put the hard drive into another computer or get ANOTHER drive funning windows
Software I swear by:
R-Studio pro. Cost me $80 and it has saved my ass so many times I can't count, i must stress though, if the drive is making clicking noises or it has physical damage, this software is not your solution, but if partition magic or another process completely corrupted your data or someone tried to format your drive, R-studio is a god-send. 10/18/2005 2:13:03 PM |
