The War on Christmas : How the Liberal Plot to Ban the Sacred Christian Holiday IsWorse Than You Thought (Hardcover)
by John Gibson

Book Description
Yes, Virginia, there is a war on Christmas. It’s the secularization of America’s favorite holiday and the ever-stronger push toward a neutered "holiday" season so that non-Christians won’t be even the slightest bit offended.

Traditionalists get upset when they’re told—more and more these days—that celebrating Christmas in any public way is a violation of church and state separation. That is certainly not what the founders intended when they wrote, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof."

John Gibson, a popular anchor for the Fox News Channel, has been digging up evidence about the liberal activists, lawyers, politicians, educators, and media people who are leading the war on Christmas. And he reveals that the situation is worse than you can imagine. For instance:

• In Illinois, state government workers were forbidden from saying the words "Merry Christmas" while at work
• In Rhode Island, local officials banned Christians from participating in a public project to decorate the lawn of City Hall
• A New Jersey school banned even instrumental versions of traditional Christmas carols
• Arizona school officials ruled it unconstitutional for a student to make any reference to the religious history of Christmas in a class project

Millions of Americans are starting to fight back against the secularist forces and against local officials who would rather surrender than be seen as politically incorrect. Gibson shows readers how they can help save Christmas from being twisted beyond recognition, with even the slightest reference to Jesus completely disappearing.

The annual debate will be hotter than ever in 2005, and this book will be perfect for everyone who’s pro-Christmas.

About the Author
John Gibson is the host of The Big Story on Fox News Channel, which airs daily at 5:00 p.m. and is currently the sixth highest rated show in all of cable news. Before joining Fox News Channel, he was an anchor and reporter for MSNBC, CNBC, and NBC News. His first book was Hating America.

hah, i love it! It gets better, though; check out the reviews!

The liberals are atheists who want to destroy christian people, October 21, 2005
Reviewer: Tom - See all my reviews

In my hometown, they canceled the chirstmas play at the public school because some muslim complained to liberal atheists. The kids couldn't even put on a play which in the past raised money for the school. Instead, the liberals would rather tax everyone more.

It is very important to fight these homosexuals and atheists. They will make a society where little 13 year old girls can get aboritions in school without their parents knowing, and where boys will be taught that homosexuality is good. But they will not let them have christmas at school. They have made it illegal to say a prayer before a sports game. These people are evil, worse than the terrorists.

It is time to get good judges, and throw out the ACLU types.

The age old war on Jesus., October 21, 2005
Reviewer: Allan R. Koskela - See all my reviews

Non-believer activists have been attacking Jesus since He was born and they'll keep at it until He returns and wipes them out. Most people are oblivious to this struggle so Gidson's book is a good reminder.

The Greatest Book Ever Written!, October 20, 2005
Reviewer: Richard Einhorn "richardein" (New York, NY) - See all my reviews

This one is up there with Plato's Republic, Aristotle's Ethics, Dante's Inferno, and The Left Behind Series.

Cogently argued, thoughtful, bold, outside the box thinking from America's finest living reporter. Comparable in American letters only to Paine's "Common Sense," in which this book abounds. Every single fact was checked, and re-checked against reality.

And if the liberals can succeed with Christmas, wait till they get their greasy little hands on Good Friday. The mind reels.

DO NOT BE FOOLED!!!, October 20, 2005
Reviewer: J. Larson - See all my reviews

Christmas is actually in invention by the Communists for the express purpose of undermining america! Did you know Santa Claus is actually a Russian creation? That's right! Not only that, why do you think that he wears red colors? It is nothing short of an insidious plot to glorify the colors of the old Kremlin! Yes, Jolly old St. Nick is a spy who has been working for the commies and the red chinese for many years. He undermines capitalist economies by a mass re-distribution of wealth every Christmas Eve. And the most insidious part is that he is using books like this one to push his bolshevik agenda under the guise of Christianity. Most insidious!

commercialization is the only thing that has changed christmas IMO. it has gotten so ridiculous with the retail/commercial industry pushing buying presents and everythin on us sooner and sooner every year. it used to be christmas shopping would start black friday but stores want to make as much $$ as they can so they push sales as early as they can. it's really a shame.

Okay, I am pretty sure some of these aren't as described

Quote :
"• In Illinois, state government workers were forbidden from saying the words "Merry Christmas" while at work

Has anyone read the book. Did the Arizona school actually have a hearing on the topic and "rule" that timmy cannot make any reference to the religous history of Christmas in a class project?

I would imagine, more likely that it was some sort of teacher led Christmas project.

I do not see what all the other Christians are so worried about.

1) Public Schools and Displays are no longer tools to convert Jews, Muslims and Athiests (and their children) to Christianity?
2) "Christian" Parents will no longer be able to raise their children as Christians if the schools do not support them in doing so?

well that i can understand because people want the separation of church and state. although where i'm from in NJ, most communities do not frown upon that at all but rather encourage it.

If I moved to another country with a national holiday for a religion I didn't believe in, I wouldn't buy my family presents or send them cards for that holiday, but that's just me.

The funny part, to me at least, is that Christmas is a hijacked holiday--it was originally a pagan solstice holiday. Since the beginning of civilization there has always been some sort of winter festival, and most societies attach a religious part to it.

from Wiki:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christmas
Quote :
"December 25 was only adopted in the fourth century as a Christian holiday by the Roman Emperor Constantine, to encourage a common religious festival for both the Christians and the Pagans."

Quote :
"Evangelical Christian pastor Jerry Falwell has a message for Americans when it comes to celebrating Christmas this year: You're either with us, or you're against us.

Falwell has put the power of his 24,000-member congregation behind the "Friend or Foe Christmas Campaign," an effort led by the conservative legal organization Liberty Counsel. The group promises to file suit against anyone who spreads what it sees as misinformation about how Christmas can be celebrated in schools and public spaces.

The 8,000 members of the Christian Educators Association International will be the campaign's "eyes and ears" in the nation's public schools. They'll be reporting to 750 Liberty Counsel lawyers who are ready to pounce if, for example, a teacher is muzzled from leading the third-graders in "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing."

An additional 800 attorneys from another conservative legal group, the Alliance Defense Fund, are standing by as part of a similar effort, the Christmas Project. Its slogan: "Merry Christmas. It's OK to say it."

Fanning the Yule log of discontent against what the Liberty Counsel calls "grinches" like the American Civil Liberties Union are evangelical-led organizations including the 150,000-member American Family Association. It has called for a boycott of Target stores next weekend. The chain's crime, according to the group, is a ban on the use of "Merry Christmas" in stores, an accusation the chain denies.

On his show last week, Fox News commentator Bill O'Reilly offered a list of other retailers that he says refuse to use "Merry Christmas" in their store advertising."

I agree. This year they added "Cyber Monday" in an attempt to create a buzz to get people to do more shopping. It feels less and less like christmas each year. Every night that is all the local news talks about. How much were sales last week, how it compares to last year, when the retailers expect the most sales, how much the average family spends, how people are paying for it all year because of credit, etc.

Now the holidays seem to be a constant fight against increased traffic, crowded malls, and $tore$ making bank on borrowed money. Maybe this has been going on since I was a kid and I didn't notice as much. I'm hoping that some of what was christmas will be restored once our kid gets old enough to recognize and anticipate christmas. I'm already excited for him.

That said I don't care if someone chooses to say "Merry Christmas" or "Happy Holidays" or nothing for that matter. What I do care about is when one group or the other tries to force me into one of the above mentioned choices.

Socks, like underwear, were among the first items of clothing worn, obviously enough, because people needed to protect their feet and keep them warm..

Socks have evolved over the centuries from the earliest models which were made from animal skins gathered up and tied around the ankles. In the 8th Century BC, the ancient Greeks wore socks from matted animal hair for warmth. Romans also wrapped their feet with leather or woven fabrics. By the 5th Century AD, socks called ‘puttees’ were worn by holy people in Europe to symbolise purity. By AD1000 socks became a symbol of wealth among the nobility.

The invention of a knitting machine in 1589 meant that socks could be knitted six times faster than by hand. Nonetheless, knitting machines and hand knitters worked side by side until 1800.
