my PC laptop, windows xp pro, is not booting up. It gets past the part where it flashes it's brand name, then it's just a black screen with a white blinking underscore in the top left corner of the screen. this is immediately after i turn it on, btw

any thoughts

I got the same problem last time with dell 1100. Mine was Hard disk problem.
But it might not be that worse. Have you tried to boot in setup mode? (i'm not expert, i'll ask my friend again)

If you have original Windows XP CD's you should try booting with CD and doing a "repair" ...

And if you don't have the CD's you should call tech support and ask about recovery disks.

it won't let me get into safe mode

i think my only option is to try and boot it from a disc
