Heard that he was hurt in the Southern Miss game there toward the end and that he has yet to participate in practice this week. Anyone else heard anything along these lines? Heard he hurt his leg with hip-pointer or something similar.

OH NO WE MIGHT NOT HAVE A RB!!! WHAT WILL WE DO.

worse case scenario we can put jay davis at tailback. hes a great athlete and you hate to see him go to waste just because were loaded at qb

I think the article I read that mentioned him possibly being hurt was published Sunday.

Then Chuck came out and announced him at #1 on the depth chart, and there's been no more talk of injury.

So I wouldn't worry about it.

^^^ Why would Brent Schaeffer know anything about this situation? Seems like a very odd person to call.

I'm calling CA in about 20 minutes to sort this out!

why would we be totally dependent on andre brown? Last time I checked we have 5 capable running backs and we are dependent on an O-Line to open up holes for those running backs and give any qb we put in there time to throw every once in a while.

lmao, nice one.

I love how we're praising the everliving hell out of Andre Brown and his performance against ONE team, much less a C-USA team. Not that I'm hating on the kid, but show me repeat performances (not all have to be as amazing as against USM) week in and week out and then I'll find the hype appropriate.

if you ask a lot of the people around here, he would have to do better then he did against USM for them to think he is worth anything.

^ I tend to agree.

Brown was pretty spectacular against So. Miss. But one important factor was that So. Miss's defensive formations were pretty weird and left a lot of vulnerability to a run attack.

I still think that Brown is a shitload better than anyone thought at the beginning of the season, but I don't see him busting out 200yd performances on a regular basis. but shit, if i'm wrong, i'll happily be so.

What impressed me about Brown the other day wasn't the yardage, it was how he got those yards.

There's a been a tendency among our RBs this year to commit to a route and try to force a play even when it's obvious that the route's cut off. They're strong enough to push forward a couple of yards, but then it's over. It was obvious on Saturday that Brown was adjusting as the play developed--changing directions and finding open holes, instead of just charging forward.

So while I'm not making a decision on his total ability until he plays some ACC games, let's just keep in mind that he is a true freshman, this was his first real game at RB, and he showed some great moves and poise.

^^TA used to do that too, but that shit works. He really is a much better back than people think. Everyone I know that saw him run in high school said "wait till you see him, he's better than TA and TB"

I think that performance was about a 130-160 yard performance against any other team. Either way, it was good. I wont say he's great yet, but I'm really excited to see him play more.

TA was great at getting yards after contact. but when he was getting those extra yards he was careless with the football, which is a major problem.

Andre had a bunch of YAC's on saturday. The wierd thing about him is that he runs so low to the ground, yet he is 6 feet tall. I noticed on saturday that he would just prowl around behind the line, then all of a sudden hit the jets and explode downfield. Its almost like they didnt see him very well. Hopefully when he starts getting hit hard he can hold onto the ball. One thing that makes this more likely is that he's faster than TA and TB, so hopefully he wont end up getting pounded at the end of a play.

brown will be a good RB, maybe even great... like it's been said already a lot will depend on the team we're against and what they do.. depending on the defensive styles, different RBs will be better at different times...

i'm lookin forward to see what all the new RBs can do over the next couple seasons

^^I'm not disagreeing with you, but I think Brown might have just as much speed as Blackman....after that 61 yard run especially. I thought there was no way in hell they wouldnt catch up to him.

Andre Brown was the fastest AND strongest non-lineman at Hargrave. Faster than all those div-1 recievers and DB's, and stronger than all the linebackers. Thats pretty impressive to me.

I think he was timed at a 4.32, which should be very comparable to Blackman. Blackman is probably quicker into and out of cuts due to his size, though. I think Brown could be a runner in the mold of Stephen Davis or Edgerrin James, using patience to wait for an opening before exploding through with speed and power.

4.32???????? I dont think so.

They said TA was a Stephen Davis type back. How could blackman fit that mold? It just doesn't fit. Blackman is NOT power, by any means. He's fast, and has incredible balance, but he does not bowl people over.

I REALLY want to see Davis in as a FB. I dont think we can go wrong with him back there except when we want more receiving out of the backfield...but he can probably handle that too.

EDIT: I think Andre Brown is in the mold of Stephen Davis...mistyped. Similar mix of speed and power.

And yes, he was timed at 4.32 while at Hargrave.

Quote :
"If looking for speed, it was certainly abundant among those running 40s, led by NC State commitment Andre Brown at 4.32, whose 20 reps at 225 was also eye-popping. Brown was followed by running back Chubb Small with a 4.33, running back Curtis Brinkley’s 4.35, who put up 19 reps himself, and then cornerback Brandon Anderson (right) running a 4.37, and his stock rising quickly.

...it was hand-timed, and probably on a track too. Who knows how accurate those times are. What I take out of it is that he was faster than everyone else there, not so much the time itself.

One thing that spaces Andre apart from TA is that he can finish off runs. TA got caught from behind a bunch, but you won't catch this guy. He found daylight after shaking a would-be tackler and wasn't caught until he haded the ball to the ref 61 yards later. THAT was impressive, and it got us back in the game.

Andre's success now lies in whether the O-line can make some holes against the FSU defense. Give the kid running room and he'll make 'em pay, but we'll have to see.

best part about him is he stays low and follows his blockers, he really huddles around the ball to protect it...thats the difference in him and TA, not to mention hes alot better of a slasher

one again i still think go with the steelers stellar style

thats bullshit. TA didnt get caught from behind unless he pulled a hammy or we were playing FSU. Now granted he pulled lots of hammys, but to say TA coulndt finish runs is absurd.

Andre has played ONE, thats right ONE, great game against a C-USA team. let me repeat: ONE game against C-USA.

lets not crown him jesus yet. i think he is a great back and the best of the bunch, but lets see.

TA got chased down by Justin Miller when he had a 5 yard head-start. Granted, Miller is an NFL player, but the point remains. A guy bigger than TA who can outrun DB's is pretty valuable.

justin miller is fast as shit, so yes that is a bad example

i never said TA was a burner, but he damn sure didnt get "caught from behind a bunch"

brown ran away from c-usa players, lets watch him run away from the noles sat is all i'm saying.

i hope brown becomes as dynamic a player as TA, i just think comparisons are premature.

ray-ray was badass his frosh yr too.

andre brown is similar to adrian peterson. hes been that way. trestman/chuck amatos just an idiot for not playing him because he cant catch very well and we feel the need to throw screen and out passes 90% of the time. since game 1 we shouldve been running i or singleback formation(either an extra te or a fb) with 2wrs (clark and hall) and running the football 1st and 2nd down with occasional playaction pasess. but we should stay conservative with the d we have and mainly just run, control clock, and limit turnovers. we would have 2 losses right now max.

Yea, becuase there are so many close to 250 yard rushers in the NCAA every week. Regardless of who we played, that was one heck of a preformance. Most teams don't get a 200 yard rushing day out of a senior back against a D-1AA team.

^Baker could have EASILY had over 200 yards against Eastern Kentucky but they pulled him out halfway through the first quarter after he had 3 TD's. He was averaging over 10 yards a carry and if we really wanted to we could have ran him to death that game but we were smart and took out(at the time) our best RB. Most teams wouldn't leave their starting senior RB in against a D-1AA school.
