Can anyone help me solve for theta:
(15/29)=(3* cot^2 (theta/2)-1)/4
Thanks

i got theta to be 89.3489 degrees
performed simple math operations to get 1.02299 = cot^2 (x/2)
cot = (1 / tan x)
1.02299 = (1 / tan (x/2))^2
sqrt(1.02299) = 1 / tan (x/2)
tan x/2 = .988699
x = 89.3489

not sure exactly what you want is it just cot(theta/2) ^2?
x:=(15/29)=(3* cot(theta/2)^2-1)/4;solve(x,theta);
15 2 x := -- = 3/4 cot(1/2 theta) - 1/4 29
2 Pi - 2 arccot(1/87 sqrt(7743)), 2 arccot(1/87 sqrt(7743))
> 2*Pi-2*arccot(1/87*sqrt(7743)), 1.5594324458484273167;
2 Pi - 2 arccot(1/87 sqrt(7743)), 1.5594324458484273167
> 4.7237528613311591603, 2*arccot(1/87*sqrt(7743));
4.7237528613311591603, 2 arccot(1/87 sqrt(7743))

Thanks, I wasn't sure if you could take the square root of the cot^2 or not. And I didn't have an arc-cotan button on my calculator. 11/2/2005 10:33:20 PM |
