^I think Oregon is very underrated. Notre Dame has beat nobody this year other than a weak Michigan team. Michigan State beat them and are not even going to a bowl. Ohio State would wax ND I think. 11/27/2005 8:38:25 AM |

Oregon should be going over ND.
Oregon only had 1 loss and that was to USC. In fact, IIRC, Oregon was actually leading USC at the half. 11/27/2005 8:43:34 AM |

yeah, Oregon, Ohio State, Miami, even TCU should get more or as much consideration as Notre Dame, but they won't, becuase Notre Dame is the golden boy of the bowl games...
(yes, Miami and Ohio STate are 2 loss teams, but both of their losses come to teams which are at least bowl eligible which is something ND can't claim)

And thing you have to consider is that ND will put fans in the seats no matter where they go. That is why we went to the Gator Bowl a couple years ago....because we travel well. 11/27/2005 9:19:29 AM |

^^ too me, it seems they will put fans in the seats when they are doing well. That year was prime example. While they had fans there, our fans greatly outnumbered theirs in the stadium. I don't know enough about Oregon, but surely if given a chance Oregon fans would travel as well as our fans do.

one reason our fans outnumbered their fans because our fans had a week head start on ordering tickets...
but still, "travelling well" should never be a consideration for a BCS bowl... they're going to sell their tickets no matter what... and i know they THINK their ratings will be boosted, but i doubt it'll make that much of a difference, it would make a difference for a lesser bowl, but not a bcs bowl 11/27/2005 9:33:01 AM |

Yea, because Notre Dame sent 40k+ to the Gator bowl ......oh wait, that was NC State.
Dude, I went to the Gator Bowl and the mismatch in the bleachers was pretty lopsided. There were WAYY more State fans and the few Notre Dame fans who showed up were older than 50 yrs old.11/27/2005 5:17:54 PM |

Notre Dame has a national fanbase.
Bowl games are run by money and ticket sales, not quality of play. If you think it should be based on quality of play, then join the bandwagon and chant for a playoff. National fanbase > State of Oregon.
If there is a Notre Dame - Ohio State Fiesta Bowl, I would say it would be almost the same ratings as the national title game. I don't like either of them, they're both arrogant pricks, but I'd still make sure to watch.
^^ On the Gator Bowl though, do you think 40k State fans would have showed up if we played the likes of Pittsburgh or Syracuse? A name opponent draws fans from the other school usually. It's why teams like Florida State can get a good bowl even if they have a slightly mediocre season and have zero fans travel.

REGARDING THE GATOR BOWL:::
we were able to get tickets WELL before the opponent was announced...
that means that we had a huge advantage against the other team, AND that means that any arguement of "people bought so many tickets just becuase we were playing notre dame" is pointless 11/27/2005 6:37:59 PM |
bigTHEW All American 7330 Posts user info edit post |
but it doesn't end the argument against Notre Dame's ability to at least get half of the stadium full. State got the same equal allotment of tickets that Notre Dame recieved so could have easily got more fans there than they did. Of course that doesn't account for the other alotment of tickets sold through ticketmaster.
You are right though, State fans were so excited about going to the Gator bowl that they eagerly bought tickets regaurdless of who they were going to play. I am sure Oregon fans would do the same thing upon gaining entry to a BCS bowl.

^^ nope... extra allotments were sent to NCSU after we sold out of the first ones.. plus i think there's tickets sold by the bowl itself, not specific to either team, we bought those too 11/27/2005 7:29:11 PM |
