This one just came out, it's probably the one last thing keeping me from uninstalling IExplore for good:
https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?application=firefox&id=1419
Also, I can't live without keyconfig (http://extensionroom.mozdev.org/more-info/keyconfig), but they haven't updated it to be compatible with RC1...
Finally, Download Manager Tweak is a great one for making the download manager into a tab...no more obtrusive download windows popping up anymore (https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?id=256&application=firefox) 11/6/2005 5:57:48 PM |

^^ forgot to mention that keyconfig (if you didn't already know) gives you the options to remap just about any key or keystroke while using Firefox to perform a given command...for instance, I have the following set up: F1 = load homepage, F2 = close current tab, F3 = open new tab with homepage, and F8 = undo close tab.
Is there any other extension out there that performs the same function or does a better job? I get the feeling that keyconfig isn't exactly maintained, as they haven't released a stable version for use with 1.5RC1 and I think I had to mod it to get it working with 1.5b2... 11/6/2005 7:39:54 PM |

Does anyone else have problems installing the Quicktime plugin for Firefox? From what I've read, it's supposed to be an automatic thing when you install quicktime, but I can't get QT files to load. QT/Firefox works fine on my mac , but on my PC, all I see are the missing plugin puzzle pieces when i load a QT page. I have QT 7.0.3, so it's definitely up to date. ex: here's a page I can't load correctly in Firefox on my PC. anyone know of something good that will save your open tabs into a session and allow you to just select that session to come back up when you want it up again in the future... ? Say for instance you are a daytrader and want 10 specific sites to all come up whenever you are researching stocks... you can just click on the session name and it opens them all up as you had them last time you saved it? 12/7/2005 11:16:29 AM |

Sesson Saver saves the tabs and layout each time you close FF http://www.extensionsmirror.nl/index.php?showtopic=166 That's good for crashes or installing new extensions while having a bunch of tabs open.
I don't think it does what you are asking exactly, but you could put all the bookmarks into one bookmark folder, then just go to that folder in the Bookmarks menu and select "open in tabs", which will open all the bookmarks in that folder in tabs in the current window 12/7/2005 11:45:12 AM |

Hopefully someone knows a quick answer to this. I have firefox 1.5 installed. I have it set to open a link in a new tab instead of window. The problem is once I see the new tab and close it, FF then moves to the furthest tab to the right. I would like it to revert the focus back to the tab I launched the link from. So far, say if I'm looking at fark or something I move the tab I want to return to in the rightmost slot. Most of the time I forget though. 12/8/2005 9:45:55 AM |

^ install Tab Mix Plus. It gives you a ton of option with your tabs. More than you probably want. But by default it should have the your focus go to the last tab you were looking at. Not the one that is furthest right on your screen. 12/8/2005 4:44:29 PM |

ah, thank god - https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?&id=1208
you can fix those hideous menus they added in FF 1.5 when using Win2k or XP with the "Classic theme". In case you didn't notice, all the menus in the menu bar and the context menu changed in 1.5 so that mousing over the menu name changes the background and text color (instead of looking like a depressed button) and the menus are flat with solid borders instead of shadowed beveled edges. This extension takes you back to the way it was before. this is the bug and discussion that led to the decision - http://kb.mozillazine.org/Firefox_windows_classic
[rant about FF development process] i agree with several of the comments that there was no reason this change should have been introduced in the first place. On that same line of thought, I thought 1.5 was going to contain other bigger changes than it did. I know it has a lot of backend work and support for new types of data and image files, rendering difference, etc etc, but as far as the normal user experience, not much has changed. The new update system is excellent, so now I can stop clicking the little red arrow in the upper right on all my friends computers for who I installed FF to begin with. But they apparently didn't even touch application and extension installer. When you want to install an extension from a site you've never used before it takes around 6 clicks and involves several : 1) click installer link 2) click the bar at the top, if you notice it (this in itself is enough to turn a huge number of users off of using extensions at all. They click a link and if they're not paying attention, which most people don't, they don't see the bar pop up, and even if they do most people are too scared to click on strange bars or buttons that are asking your permission for something) 3) Click Allow for the site you're on. Then wonder why that stupid window is still there. Hope the "Allow" took effect, then finally: 4) Close the window 5) click on the installer link again 6) click install, after waiting 3-6 seconds
that's ridiculous - it should be a maximum of two or three clicks. 1) click an installer link 2) pop-up asks if it's safe. You can choose something like "allow always and install", "allow once and install" or "disallow, don't install". Then more advanced users should be able to edit the allowed websites through the Options dialog. [/rant] 12/12/2005 1:33:10 PM |

And here's an article how to use it - http://performancing.com/node/540
It basically can turn FF into a blog writing and publishing tool. You can add your custom blogs, or any existing Blogger, Wordpress, MT hosted accounts, etc. It's crazy fast and works really well 12/22/2005 12:34:07 PM |

this is still in beta testing, but it looks to be an excellent extension - http://www.chatsum.com/
It adds a pane to FF that turns into a chatroom for any page you visit. This could be incredibly cool - you visit any site and can immediately interact with other people viewing the same site at the same time. of course, they will hvae to protect against spammers - that could be really annoying if they set up bots on popular sites.... 1/11/2006 2:05:45 PM |

it says any site can have a chat room, so it's surely hosted by chatsum. When it is released though, hopefully they can keep up with the traffic. This will be 'slashdotting' to a while new level - basically every page on slashdot will have its own chatroom - that could bring chatsum to its knees 1/11/2006 3:59:19 PM |

good to see things like this and chatsum (above, about to be released in beta in a day or two) that are taking extensions to another level by tying pages and Firefox together through other services 1/20/2006 10:18:00 AM |

here's some Gmail ones -
GSpace - https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?id=1593&application=firefox Like the Windows Shell Extension "Gmail Drive", but works inside FireFox. Looks and functions like FireFTP, but sends files as attachments to your Gmail account. You can then set up a filter and label in Gmail so anything coming through GSpace can skip the inbox and be labeled as such. When you log into GSpace, it will show all files available for download from your gmail account. nice.
Gmail Manager - https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?id=1320&application=firefox You can log into multiple Gmail accounts in the same FF session and adds other functionality for Gmail. 2/15/2006 8:10:34 AM |

here's another nice Gmail extension - GmailSkins - http://gmailskins.mozdev.org/installation.html You can skin the color of your gmail (although I find the default to be the most pleasing to the eye), but also several other options available. I especially like keeping the navigation pane static on the left side instead of scrolling (although i'd like the icon to be static too), and the attachment file-type preview icon instead of the normal paperclip.

anyone tried this plugin yet? https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?id=2108&vid=12776 Stylish - Firefox Extension Stylish lets you quickly and easily manage user styles. As opposed to userChrome.css/userContent.css styles, Stylish styles can be applied immediately without requiring a restarting, and there's a nice UI to do it in. Stylish is the Greasemonkey of CSS, complete with an online repository of styles at http://userstyles.org
