1) #16 Shooting Guard - **** - Larry Davis

http://scout.scout.com/a.z?s=178&p=8&c=1&nid=1273486

2) #19 Small Forward - **** - Dennis Horner

http://scout.scout.com/a.z?s=178&p=8&c=1&nid=1896517

3) #15 Guard (doesn't specify) - **** - Nikitta Gartrell

http://scout.scout.com/a.z?s=178&p=8&c=1&nid=1967005&refid=4741

4) NR Small Forward - *** - Dan Werner

http://scout.scout.com/a.z?s=178&p=8&c=1&nid=1909140

Edit: Good enough for the #24 class in the nation. (And that's without the recent Gartrell commitment. Apparently, this guy committed yesterday or last night and is going to ink today with the Pack......? )

On a related note:

2007 #6 SG Austin Freeman - ***** (5 stars) is to announce between Georgetown and NC State today. He will announce for Georgetown, unfortunately, to be closer to home (He's from right outside DC)

I didn't think that name sounded familiar.

Damnit, you had my hopes up that we were getting another guard this year.

Seeing that it was a 5'9" shooting guard...it is hard to get too excited.

^^ Yeah, no shit. I saw the new article up this morning and was like "Who is this guy and how come I've never heard of him?". I figured I'd include him (her) anyways...even though I had no idea who he (she) was.

another solid recruiting class for Herb...
here's hoping they're smart enough to catch on quickly and be useful as freshmen

Yeah, man. Consistency is so boring! It's about time for Herb to get a shitty recruiting class. I'm tired of this!

^^I'll be happy if they just stick around to develop experience.

Although I do hope Davis comes in ready to contribute, because we'll need some help at guard next year.

Funny thing is...the way Herb has recruited and put our program together...we will rarely have to depend on freshmen for major contributions to the team. Let's just take a look at the this years and next year's team.

2005-06

Seniors:

Evtimov
Bethel
Bennerman

Juniors:

Atsur

Sophomores:

Brackman
Simmons
Grant

Freshmen:

Costner
Fells
McCauley

2006-07

Seniors:

Atsur

Juniors:

Brackman
Simmons
Grant

Sophomores:

Costner
Fells
McCauley

Freshmen:

Horner
Werner
Davis

Lookng at that...you are 7-deep without the freshmen. Get about 5-10 minutes from 1 or 2 freshmen a year and you're 8 or 9 deep. As of right now, we don't have to worry about 5, 6, or 7 (hello UNC) players leaving in one year and having to replace 99% of our scoring, rebounding, and assists with unproven freshmen.

We will rarely have to rely on freshmen for major contributions in our program.

Once again, we don't use a PG. We use swing guards.

We'll have two guards in Atsur and Fells, plus Grant can play some of that. So yes, we'll need Davis to contribute minutes, but not as a starter.

I'm not as sure about him leaving as I was a year ago.

I expect he's going to get some attention this year, and may potentially have an NBA career after all.

look i know we dont use a PG per se, but that doesnt mean we dont need someone w/ the qualities of a PG, i.e. beating the press, setting up the offense, making plays

i think atsur is useable for setting up the offense, but i dont think he can handle an ACC full court press like Bethel or Hodge.

Looks like all 3 of them have 3 point range as well. I like how we get guys that are both inside and outside. We are slowly developing into a really good team.

Update

I may have jumped the gun on that Freeman thing. I'm not seeing where anyone is predicting NC State.... I've heard mostly Georgetown, but some folks that said Georgetown earlier are now hearing it may be Maryland....?

I thought it had been confirmed about Georgetown, but I accidentally reported it on rumor

Anywho.... from everything I hear he loves NC State but it's too far, he's probably going to Georgetown, but there's a slight chance Maryland has climbed back in it.

He announces at 2:00 today

I've heard Georgetown as well. Mom wants him close to home. Although she came down here with him and liked it.

I think John Thompson III is a good recruiter and should bring Georgetown back to respectability. And Gary Williams just sucks at recruiting. The Hoyas can field a good team if they recruit the D.C/Maryland/Virgina area well.

The PackPride boards are saying it's now official that Freeman's going to G-town.

No idea if it's true, though.

This looks like a pretty mediocre class, and again without a point guard.

We're really stockpiling those swing men.

I've heard rumors that Davis plays well at the point and makes a great swing guard, and Horner and Werner are supposed to be perfect fits for our style.

Considering that, and that the class is ranked #24, I don't think this is "mediocre" at all. There's also the fact that our recruiting probably suffered because the coaches had to concentrate so much on keeping the team going last year when everything was going wrong.

This is a "solid" class.

I've seen video on Davis and Werner. Davis is really good and I was really surprised by Werner...he looked like a slimmer/quicker Evtimov. Davis is better than Sosa, who everyone was drooling over earlier this year.

This class didn't need to be great. I'm not saying it could have been better, but no reason to be dissappointed with it. 2007 is a huge class. We need to get some big time players.

Every class needs to be great to maintain a top-tier program.

I truly believe the Mejia/Flatt/Simons class killed us. Not only did they all suck, but they all transferred as well. That really hurt our depth... we wouldn't have had to play Brackman, Simmons, etc last year if we'd had some decent guys come in (They played well, but you still shouldn't have many freshmen playing)

Bennerman was in that class

We almost signed Gilchrist. Some say we backed off after he was a douche on his recruiting trip, others say he backed off because our offense sucks.

He was a douche, Maryland sadly will probably be better without him. Sterling Ledbetter is just as good as he was minus the ACC tourney he had two years ago.
