Find someone in the classifieds of like the independent or craiglist. many people do it for cheap.

basically, you'll need these things:

1. 8mm camera
2. Computer with:
3. a video capture card
4. a dvd burner
5. software to do #3 and #4

and you're set.

scan in each frame individually

There are companies that will do it for you, although it's somewhat pricey. Basically they just project the film onto a reflective surface and then film that with a digital camera.

Scanning each frame isn't that feasible for 8mm since there's only one sprocket hole on only one side of the film per frame.

^Well if he means a Hi8 camera, like ones that were out a few years ago, then it is really simple to do (see my post).
