I think it is a bit early to be calling the part of civilization that is France "falling apart." Honestly, this is all going to end quite soon. In one months time, two revolting teenagers will be cornered by the police and flee into a nuclear storage facility (as opposed to a power substation) and set of a nuke, killing themselves and everyone else.

The reconstruction will be long and arduous, but France will be a better place because of it.

Haha, actually a lot of what's going on right now is not very good for the administration. If they don't turn it around, they're going to end up leaving the country set for a democratic president in '08.

Actually no that is not why its happening. Have you even read the news on this or looked at the issue at all?

France's unemployment is around 10%, the unemployment rate in the area where the riots are is around 40%. What is so special about this area? Immigrants. Immigrants from Africa and the Middle East.

The problem is the French are actually racist in their hiring practices.

These people are tired of not being able to break out of the ghetto because of their skin color.

Capitalism isn't going to fix that by itself.

Hedonism - Pursuit of or devotion to pleasure, especially to the pleasures of the senses.

France - subsidizes the shit out of wine production as well as country living. 35 hour work week. Socialism merely means that the government is active in the economy, it doesn't pre-suppose what its motives are.

Last time i checked i have the right to criticize other countries for what i see as doing things that are harmful to the world. France hasnt exactly helped us out in the war on terror.

According to the article I just read, France takes an opposite approach to integration from us. Instead of trying to recognize diversity like they teach here, France wants to strip immigrants of identity, and force them to integrate. This creates a more racist atmosphere with their policies (and law enforcement), which has built up a lot of tension over time, which was finally set off by the deaths of the 2 criminals. To top it off, the France officials have firmly held their ground, which pisses people off even more. This is going to be a difficult issue for France to resolve.

Where do I start with this one? I point out something you have said in response to something in this thread, and your response is "you don't even know me." I'm guessing that since I don't know any KKK members, I can't say that any of them are racists. And no, WE don't make all of the right look like racists. I'll give them some credit; they can actually post legit thoughts.

It’s not that simple. England took a more lenient approach with their immigrants, and look where it got them. I would prefer hoodlums to subway bombers. What exactly would you have the French do?

IMHO, I think that the French got off quite easy. From what I’ve read, the disturbance was driven by economically disadvantaged youths—much like say, an inner city disturbance in the US. America has its problems with race and so does Europe.

The real test for France will be a jihadist uprising, in which infidels are murdered as opposed to cars torched. That's when you'll see the real fireworks.
