NPR is pretty shitty, but it's the only talk radio on FM. I too have stopped listening until they quit with the damn fake phone sounds.

well duh there is bias, but at least its usually intelligent discussion - as opposed to fox news or AM talk radio (except neal boortz - he's intelligent)

I helped with their fundriasing drive by answering their calls at the station.

Trust me, that "fake phone ring" is real... everytime someone calls in their line goes through that phone and then to a volunteer who picks up the phone and answers.

i gave $75 last fall after I got my first job. Then a month later Newsweek started showing up at my house and I couldn't for the life of me remember subscribing to newsweek (i read one or two and started throwing them away immediately anyway b/c they suck). THen during the spring drive they mentioned something like "give at the $75 level and receive a free subscription to newsweek!", so i rememberd why i was getting it....
but i'm out of the country for a year, so i think i'll skip one or two fund drives
