Yeah for real. Why is it that we can't have a "Christmas party" at work, but we do have a "Holiday party" every year. What holiday do they think we are celebrating? Of course, the Halloween party is still on.

I better stop before I sound like Salisburyboy. It's not even that I think there is a "war on Christianity." I just don't think people should be so spineless as to rename the "Christmas Party" to "Holiday Party" because they are afraid some freak that is already on the fringes will get offended. Fuck that guy that gets offended at everything.

I wish it were that simple. It's more of a feeling of annoyance that we live in a society that tries to make sure everybody is happy with everything. Nobody can get pissed at a room that has been painted entirely white, but it's nothing to be excited about either. I just feel that all of these changes are just making our lives more and more bland.

And yes, I'm aware that there are parts of our culture that need/needed to be removed. Slavery being an example, but I see slavery as inherently bad whereas "Christmas party" is not inherently bad....Well, not in my opinion at least. Feel free to say that I'm seeing the world in a very egocentric manner.

^^^i totally agree...and one of the major arguments is that with nativity scenes for example ppl said they were imposing Christian beliefs on everyone but it isn't at all imposing just using our right to worship how WE please...and not having restrictions on our worship b/c someone else doesnt belief as we do.

You can turn your entire house into a huge nativity scene for all anyone cares.

This is a question of government approved and funded religious symbols.

Who cares that "In God We Trust" isn't on money?

Holidays? Is it so bad to say "Happy Holidays"?

edit:
how are these nativities that are on gov't property somehow NOT officiating a religion?

this is the exact post i was going to make before i finished reading the thread. it isnt like we're taking the christmas cheer down 10 pegs or anything, we're just making sure that people dont feel excluded from our society.

again, changing "merry christmas" to "happy holidays" is not the equivalent of removing all color from a room. itd be like changing a crucifix to an american flag. something that only some people relate to, to something that everyone (in our nation hopefully) can understand and back. maybe not the best example, but its a start.

plus you are free to paint your entire house fusia (OH NO HOME OWNERS ASSOCIATION) if you wish, but at work/court/etc we should try to be impartial.

Yes, the long war on Christianity. I pray that one day we may live in an America where Christians can worship freely, in broad daylight.... And maybe - dare I dream it - maybe one day there could even be an openly Christian president, or perhaps 43 of them consecutively

I don't even claim any religous beliefs, so I don't think I can be labelled a religous facist. When I said freaks, I was referring to the people that are offended by everything that doesn't fit in with their exact beliefs. I don't give a flying fuck if they have a Chanukah party or even a Odin-mas party if such a thing existed. I would look forward to the opportunity to learn about other cultures and beliefs. And the fact that I wouldn't make a big deal out of it is what separates me from the whiney fucks I was talking about.

If they want to make up a new holiday and have a party for it and give us some time off I won't complain. But the obvious conversion of Christmas to "The Holidays" is both lame and dull.

Half the time it doesnt have anything to do with being "offensive". Honoring another religion is just plain against the rules in some religions (Christianity included). As such, going to a "Christmas Party", for instance, can be viewed as an act of sacrilege. Simple as that.

If thousands, perhaps millions of Christians refuse to participate in Halloween because its "blasphemous", then why is it so hard to understand why some muslims, jews, etc dont like it when their employers host Christmas Parties?

this is a stupid discussion
everyone knows islam is not a real faith and Jews are the forefathers of Christianity but before we insult anyone we need to realize that in the south very few of us are of the true Christian Church
the only Church founded in The year 33 AD by Jesus Christ and that is the Catholic Church.

first, youre wrong.

second, going to a christmas party is not DISHONORING nor HONORING any religion. its a break from work.

third, youre not required to go.

fourth, ive been to several bah mitzvah's and the following after party, and that is not dishonoring my religion. i was not required to attend, and if was offended, i had the oppurtunity to not attend ... as with a christmas party (which is not comparable to such a religious tradition)

fifth, there is no worship involved with a christmas party .. if you are offended by sugar cookies, egg nog, sweaters with bells, and carols ... then fucking get a grip. there are MILLIONS of non-christians who not only put up with this, but look forward to it and participate. if you choose to live in america, and are offended by such harmless activities, maybe you need to relocate.

sixth, refer to number 3

in reference to wanting to call it a 'holiday party' instead of a 'christmas party', lets not kid ourselves, youre an insecure retard and need to be slapped

1, 2, 4, 5 Not everyone has the same beliefs as you.

3, When it comes to a company sponsored party, they are required to accomodate their employees.
