I called RR about my recently crappy speeds and weekends without email service and asked what they could do since I've had RR for a long time. They gave me 12 months @ $34.99/mo. Not bad since I've been paying $44.99/mo. for a loooong time. I guess anyone can call in and get the same deal.

i get free hd dvr from talking to them several times about various problems i had and better offers that made up for the opportunity cost to switch (the lady even said "it's a lot of trouble to switch" before i hit her with the info)

you can def. talk to get discounts

^ whats the best way to go about doing that? I've been a cingular customer for 5 years but want to switch due to the high per minute prices (national only plans). whats the best way to approach this...what numbers to call, who to speak with etc?

switching to CTC (concord) DSL "lite". Not bad though and much better than bell south dsl lite.
CTC 24.99/month for 6 months then 29.99/month for 512x512

but holy crap they have service that blows roadrunner away...
10Mbpsx1Mbps for 69.99/month

How does that blow RR away?

Thats just.. 5mbps more dl, and 512kbps more ul? For $25 more?

No.

Now if you were talking about FOIS..then itd be a different story.

wtf are you talking about
road runner premium
8Mpbs down 512kbps up for
Quote :
"$69.95 when you also subscribe to Digital Phone
and/or Cable TV $84.95 as a stand-alone"

so yes it blow it out of the water

regular roadrunner is Up to 5 Mbps download speed x 384 kbps upload

Uh...so I wasn't wrong (ok, a bit off when considering the ul speed).

and I regularly get 5Mpbs at home with RR.

I am just saying that another 5Mbps is not worth the $25 extra. Is another 650kilobytes a second worth the $25 to you? Its hard to even max out 650 a lot of the time anyway. If I really wanted kick ass speed I would just wait it out unti FiOS is more widespread.

Up to 15 Mbps/2 Mbps for $49.95 truly blows everything out of the water.

damn midkiff, i thought you were good at getting good deals. time warner is the easiest company to get a good deal with. all you have to do is call and cancel your service. they'll go through the cancelling process but right before they say they're done, they'll ask why you are cancelling. i tell them because i can get the same service for cheaper e.g. bellsouth dsl for 29.95/month. i've been paying that rate for roadrunner for 2 years now. just like my t.w. digital phone. vonage charges 24.95/month so t.w. matched that as well. the only pain in the ass about doing it is the prices aren't permenant. they'll try to offer the discount for only 3 months but then i just tell them that i can get it through the other company at that rate permenantly so they'll at least have to do it for a year. one day i'm just going to drop t.w. all together. i can't believe i work so hard to continue to be their customer.

well I just called to cancel the roadrunner
they tried to offer 29.99 for 6 more months
I said if you guys only had a cable modem lite like dsl had I might have kept you guys.
Well they do have a roadrunner lite that is 384d/128u for $29.99
but my dsl lite is only costing $24.99/month for 6 months then $29.99 and I get 512d/512u but is actually running at 726d/738u.

Sorry AOL time warner you SUCK

We're getting ready to get RR at the crib. We were splitting his connection through his router till he moved.

Question. How many computers can I hook up just using there modem, and do they have a wifi modem so I won't have to deal with setting up a system. Usually one user, but possibly up to three at a time. Rarely download big files so that's not a huge deal for me.

you pay more for using the time warner wireless. if you don't have a router or hub only 1 connection to the internet is available. Just buy a wireless router it's cake to hookup.

I'm assuming that a wireless router will have a couple of ethernet ports as well. The ideal plan would be to hardwire 2 computers and have wifi just for the laptop.

Half the time my Battlefield 2 ping is like 150ish, making it unplayable.

Cool, thank you.

One more thing. We might run 1 100 foot cable to the neighbor's apartment. Is that too long?
