The high school football playoffs are in their second round this Friday.

Local games include:
Jack Britt (10-2) at Garner (12-0) **The best game of the week, by far**
WF-Rolesville (9-3) at Wakefield (12-0) **Phillip Rivers' father coaches Wakefield**
Clayton (8-4) at Fuquay-Varina (7-5) **This was a huge rivalry until recently. I'll be at this one.**
Lee County (7-5) at Southern Durham (12-0) **Some folks are predicting an upset**
E.E. Smith (8-4) at Durham Jordan (9-3)

Rose is going to win the 4-A again. They are even stronger this year then they have been in the last 2. More complete team, it isn't just one or 2 players

Rose does look awfully good this year; it's a shame they're not in 4AA along with Charlotte Independence; they would have as good a chance as anyone at ending Indy's 88-game winning streak.

I'm going to the Garner game tomorrow night. It is going to be COLD..but still a good game.
Garner will have its toughest game of the season, for sure.

What I was saying is that Rose and Indy can't play in the playoffs. Indy, Richmond, Garner, and Wakefield are the top seeds in the 4AA bracket. Rose, Southern Durham, Greensboro Grimsley, Mount Tabor, and Asheville Reynolds are the favorites at the 4A level.

I'd say Garner won't make it back to the championships...

but they probably will make it further than Cary...

anyways.. Cary Vs. Southview tomorrow should be a great game

East Lincoln VS Forest Hills. We're taking the trip to Marshville to cheer on the real Mustangs: East Lincoln (in response to spro, who's school actually has our old head coach).

Lee Senior has looked really good the last two weeks, giving Tri-7 champ Fuquay-Varina their only conference loss (39-21) in the last game of the regular season, then blasting Purnell Swett in the first round of the playoffs. Southern Durham has more weapons overall, but Lee RB Rashon Kennedy is very good, and he's only a junior.

I'm looking forward to the first meeting in several years between Clayton and my team, Fuquay-Varina. Gary Fowler has the Comets solid, as always, and the Bengals are having their best season in a decade.

Britt beat Garner 28-17.
it was a close game until the end..
Britt went up 7-0... after halftime Garner went up 14-7
Britt scored and made it 14-14
Then Garner made it 17-14 on a field goal
Then 2 touchdowns for Britt
Britt was running the same plays over and over and Garner could NOT stop it...
GG Britt

Cary beat South View 28-27

I have to give it up to the guys. Nobody expected more than 3 wins from this team. They go 7-6 on the season, and have a bright future with this coach (as long as he stays there).

Man, I'm tired of this shit. Every year, Garner blows through everyone during the regular season, and then they get jobbed in the 2nd or 3rd round. WTF NELSON SMITH??? GET SOME TOUGHER COMPETITION OR SOMETHING.

They should do a "Premier" Conference for HS football, put the top 8 in each class together in a conference each year, and change it based on previous standings. Let everyone else play for the 4-A, 3-A, 2-A, 1-A Title, and have the top 8 play for the "Premiership" title. Have it cycle every year, noone plays Premier twice in a row, and they have to fight to get back in the next year.

Fuck this beating South Johnston by 70 and losing to Fayetteville every year shit.

Yeah, very frustrating for Garner. Every year, unbeaten or close to it in the reg. season, and lose a little too early in the playoffs.
No excuses, but one thing is that the playoff format is terrible. I don't keep up with it that much. Every Friday I just look to see Garner's score, and thats about the extent of my keeping up with high school football. I just think Jack Britt was too good for #1 seed to be playing them in 2nd round. Of course, that could just mean a later round loss for Garner, but also Britt could be knocked off. Who knows.

Way back when I played....both of my varsity years we were ranked #1 in the state. Richmond County was ranked #2. My junior year we lost to them in the 2nd round and my senior year we lost to them in the 1st round. WTF? Both games were close, and we lost. I'm not making excuses. It just sucked for one of us to have to be eliminated that early.

I played for Stewart and Smith was the offensive co-ordinator. Both of them are great coaches. I think Garner's worst record in the last 20 years is 7-3. Can't really complain about that.

Good win for Britt.

Can anyone explain to me how 4-7 teams can make the playoffs or why 5-5 teams are seeded higher than 9-2 teams? Doesnt make sense....but neither does having 8 schools that can claim state championship.

Josh Adams was held to under 100yds for the first time in 36 GAMES

But, he scored twice (once with a minute left to put the Imps on top), threw a 60yd TD pass (2-2 passing, 66yds), and converted a 2pt conversion. Also played bigtime defense.

Cary @ Wakefield, next Friday night.

^^Cary will have to win 1 more game after Wakefield to go to the championship...but if they beat Wakefield, it is highly possible....

Even though I went to Garner and Cary was our rival, I have to say I am pulling for them to beat Wakefield.

And as much as I hate to bitch about highschool football, b/c it is only highschool football,
I swear those Fayetteville teams have got our number every year. Every year, the road to the championship goes through Fayetteville, and they seem to have our number.

I remember back in 98 when we beat both Southview and Byrd, but since then, those fayetteville teams are tough.
I'm gonna have to go check out the Wakefield/Cary game next week. 2 good running backs

And I agree Garner's schedule hurt them this year. They hadn't played anyone up to Britt's caliber before last night.

shit, there are a couple 1-9 teams in 1A. I'm so pissed with this split division shit. It makes no sense to allow 64/100 (64/80some in 1A) teams to make the playoffs. I don't see the point of the split divisions. The notion that having a difference of a few hundred more students makes a school's football team so good that it isn't fair is ridiculous. At the very least, they need to reduce the brackets to 16 teams from each split division and require all playoff participants have 6 wins.

I'm convinced that this is purely about generating revenue for the NCHSAA. If you don't know, they get some/most/all of the gate sales at playoff games. This gives them twice as many games and twice as much money.

hopefully we can pull it out again this year. 2nd longest winning streak in NC i believe.

next few games will be tough for us though. Doubt we'll win it this year like last year but we'll end up having a pretty good season either way

B/c it is fun and competitive, especially in this area.
It is even larger in other areas and states.

It's pretty lame in Wake County, actually. I go to games every now and them and most people are there to watch the band. But it is a big deal in Eastern and Western NC.

Well, I know in Garner it was pretty damn big, and still is. Half the town shows up for football games, whether they had a kid that went there or not.

and Garner's band only has like 25 kids in it currently..I don't know what happened to it.

The band is a lot bigger and more popular at schools like Cary and Southeast, etc...

High School football is big pretty much anywhere in the State of NC, its about the last spot that you can find football to be pure and played with straight emotion and no one is truly worried about stats or anything, they are just playing to play and 90% will never play again.
