I've had the HD Time Warner box since January. About a week ago, I got the HD DVR box from TWC. The box type is a Scientific Atlanta Model No. 8300.
My problem is on the HD channels, I seem to have issues with interference or digital pixelation making the picture and audio sound like Max Headrum (sp?).
Anyone have or having similar problems? Any advice short of going with satellite? Curious if any others are experiencing or has experienced similar issues, because the thought of calling TWC and waiting the 4-hr window for a cable guy is not an entertaining thought.
Thanks... 11/20/2005 1:00:53 AM |

Sounds like a signal strength problem.
Are you getting a lot of packet loss on your internet? 11/20/2005 1:01:32 AM |

I have no clue how to check that?
When the technician came out to install the box, he checked the signal strength and was shocked at the strength...saying it was well into the good range for HD? 11/20/2005 1:05:41 AM |

You can check the signal strength in the diagnostic menu. I think you hold "exit" and some other button on the box itself. I know it is in this thread somewhere, because I have done it on the 8300 non-HD box. http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?s=&postid=4547722&highlight=guide+tips#post4547722 11/20/2005 8:35:51 AM |

tune to an HD channel.. then tune to 999.. that'll give you the diagnostic screen for the box and tuning information for the channel you were tuned to.
the box itself can be messed up.. Our apartment is already on it's 5 box because the others had performance issues where the box would randomly reboot, HD channels would freeze and pixelate, stuff wouldn't record.. etc.. The HDD's are probably fragmenting.. but the Pioneer software on these things doesn't support HDD formatting.. although the SARA software (TWC doesn't use this) that comes factory on these things does..
