every year i see these good early season tournaments such as the Maui invitational, NIT, and Guardians with all some good teams playing i know for Maui, i guess you have to be invited but what about the other ones?? why aren't we playing in any of these tournaments and why do we have to host the hispanic college fund classic with a bunch of no name schools???? 11/21/2005 11:25:27 PM |

Shouldn't the question answer itself, we get no respect. 11/21/2005 11:36:15 PM |

We were in a 'preseason' thing agaist Gonzaga 2 years ago (Jimmy V) and this year we are in the Wooden Classic this year vs. ND. I know they aren't tournaments per se but only so many teams can be in them... We also had a tourney a few years back at the RBC that had a field comparable to this years Preseason NIT (we got blown the FUCK out by Charlotte in the final..)

i'd bet he's wary about playin good teams too early since it takes a few games to get the offense clickin 11/22/2005 1:13:13 AM |

i don't really know if this is true: but i would assume we have some sort of say if we want to play iowa or not. even if it'd be really stupid to turn it down.11/22/2005 1:37:43 AM |

Actually we are in the Wooden Traditional, the Wooden Classic is two weeks later I believe (yeah, I didnt know there was more than 1 before either). We were scheduled for the Preseason NIT in 2007, but Boston College was already in it and you cant have teams from the same conference in it, they apparently inked their deal first, so we got left out. 11/22/2005 1:38:44 AM |

How about Alabama? They are pretty good. Its just obvious that Herb avoids playing tough OOC teams. To deny that would be ignoring 9 years of demonstrated history and numerous quotes from the staff on the matter.

We don't get to choose who we play in the ACC/Big 10 challenge. If we did, Herb would probably try to schedule Northwestern or Penn State every year.

i'm not saying we get to choose who we play. but i would imagine ncsu could opt out if they really wanted to. it'd be stupid, but i would imagine it'd be possible. 11/22/2005 2:10:18 AM |

two points for a easy schedule:
1) the acc is always rough, no matter what. the last, 4 or 5 years we've been competitive nationally, but we're also not duke. to go into the 16-game ACC schedule and hope to make the tournament (8-8 ACC or better) we'd need to enter the ACC with ~10 wins minimum and ~3 or 4 losses max. An easy schedule allows this.
2) apparently herb's offense is tough to get used to running, as is the high level of defense Herb expects his teams to play. We also face a lot of different types of "bad" teams... like the zone our Friday opponents ran. for players who've only been in the system a year or less... having some "warm-up" games against teams to get used to everything... works all right.
although, it would be nice to have a big team come to the RBC once a year.. a Kentucky or Syracuse or UCLA or someone to get some fans in the seats. win or lose, it would help attendance and interest before Christmas. 11/22/2005 2:18:25 AM |

Notre Dame Iowa Alabama
all are "tough" OOC teams this year, without doubt.
Last year we played WV and Washington, neither were big on the radar at the time, but looking back both are easily considered "tough" OOC games. 11/22/2005 7:34:50 AM |

^id say so, considering UW was a number 1 seed in the tourney and WV made it to the elite 8.

Even with our schedule the way it is, if we win 20 or so games we're gonna have an RPI rating in the top 15. That's plenty.
I do wish we could play a few more decent teams... I dont' want a Kentucky or Illinois yet, but I also would like someone better than Stetson & Co.
Our schedule is getting better, and I think it will continue to do so if we get a better team each year and win some games. That's the key... not the schedule. To play teams like Kentucky, UConn, Syracuse, etc. OOC nowadays would be suicide. 11/22/2005 6:47:36 PM |
