Never really had any major problems with the desktop. Turned it off last nite before i went to bed. Woke up today and gave me the screen of " cannot start your computer.... start in safe mode, start last known good config, start normally" It seems to be making a clicking noise that i dont really remember from before. dont really know what that means or whats wrong with it. I know a lil bit about computers. I tried unpluggin everything and wiring it back up (hard drive, cd-rom, disk drive), still gives me the same problem
Any suggestions on things to try? thanks 11/22/2005 2:56:46 AM |

did you try starting with any of those options?? or would it not start at all after showing those options.
that screen will just show up once in awhile if the machine wasnt turned off properly or sometimes on my laptop even randomly, its not a big deal really. i know this was a really general start since im guessing you already tried starting it with one of those options but figured it couldnt hurt to ask 11/22/2005 3:04:07 AM |

yeah ive tried every option and everytime it just goes back to the same screen.
ive seen that screen before too just maybe when i randonmly turned things off or maybe on someone else's computer. But i shut it down the way it was supposed to be this time.
So i dont really know why this is coming up. 11/22/2005 2:59:08 PM |

yea this happened to me..it was just in a startup loop and the harddrive was making a clicking problem. i sent it in to be fixed by IBM but somehow it got back without them fixing the harddrive and then a guy in the ncsu bookstore went in and fixed it for me for free 11/22/2005 10:53:10 PM |

he was one of the main guys on duty that handles the warranties through the school (mine was under warranty with IBM, but he ended up helping). but itd be worth going there and asking someone, he went in and looked and sawthat i just had a few bad sectors and the drive works now. 11/23/2005 5:21:11 AM |
