Although the mainstream media is doing it's best to cover it up, there is an ongoing "mini-war" along the U.S.- Mexican border and further inland along the border. Mexican commandos and gangs tied to drug trafficking are attacking the U.S. Border Patrol, killing and kidnapping American citizens, burning down houses, and even carrying out car bombings. Reportedly, 800 people have been killed in the past year in the South Texas border zone alone. Incidents similar to this, including Mexican army incursions into the U.S., have occured frequently over the past few years, but there has been a dramatic escalation in the violence over the past year or so.

Actually, it wouldn't suprise me if there were Mexican troops and federal police officers accidentally crossing over into the United States to chase down gangs. There's been a few symbolic crackdowns recently on gang violence on the Mexican side of the border, and the potential for a spill-over is very possible.

As for Mexican troops actually invading the United States, my question is: why? They've already got so many people in this country who have an immense influence on our political process, so it's not like Mexico has to resort to such crude tactics to achieve their goals in the United States.

Hahaha, no, no. I don't believe the Mexican Army is invading the United States to secure drug smuggling routes (why bother with that when you can buy off local Americans instead). However, I think I know of the actual news events that might have triggered these vast conspiracy theories about Mexicans invading.

I would also be suprised if Mexican military units are actually blowing away border patrol and members of local and state Texas police forces on a regular basis. Our guys are armed with pretty heavy firepower and with plenty more to back them up.

Also, I doubt that there's been a news blackout. The whole mess with Nuevo Laredo has been in the news for a bit ranging from local papers to NPR; there's just other small issues like Iraq, corruption charges, and Supreme Court nominations that have relegated it to blurbs buried on page A24.
