I can't explain it... my desktop cpu's internet has come to a crawl. cpu is fast as ever, running civ 4 nicely... but downloads are slow (25kb/sec maybe?). I'm pretty good about avoiding spyware/adware and for a while I hardly used this computer (sept-mid oct.). any good ways to test my internet connection to determine whether or not it's XP/ethernet card/router? I run my laptop wirelessly off the same router and its fast. my desktop is connected via ethernet. when I play CS my ping is fine, for what that's worth.

I'm heading towards a reformat but I got so much shit on this computer / programs installed that it'd take a lot of time.

appreciate it.

Post a hijack this log so we can see a list of running processes. (Symantec Antivirus 10 has a process called DoScan.exe which eats up the CPU if you installed that recently)

Thing is, it's *not* that fast, at all. It's on and off for no real reason. I've tried different ethernet cables but not a different ethernet card. I'll post a hijack this! log in a few minutes.
