Casillero del Diablo Merlot is an excellent Chilean merlot, usually around $10.

Duplin scuppernong and muscadine wines, found at the NC section of wine stores, or as you're driving to wilmington on I-40 (Duplin Co. Winery...)

They're very sweet, so are good for the novice wine drinker (like me )
Also, even the white wine has something like 5x the antioxidants of regular red wine.

Thanks to being underage I don't really get to try many different wines but my family had some Yellow Tail Chardonnay this Thanksgiving that I thought was really good.

If you like whites, try Conumdrum... It's like 20-something at Total Wine.

Another decent white is Sonoma Cutrer- Russian River. It's around $20. (total wine)

i was on a tour of the vineyards in the Napa Valley one time

our guide at one winery was passing around samples of their different wines, and describing each one (the way wine afficianados to..."full body, hints of tobacco and rosemary, and a clean finish...")

well, she passes around a couple of bottles of this one wine and says "i like to describe this wine as "an explosion in your mouth"

i've never seen so many stuffy people stifle so much laughter...hahaha

Best super cheap red: Concha y Toro Cab blend. Its like $5.69 at Food Lion. Wine Enthusiast had it as one of its budget picks. Also Rex Goliath Pinot Noir for about $6 is popular and easy.

For good wines, in general, under $30 (or even under $20) we can list dozens with ease. Go to any wine store (Carolina Wine Co, Wine Merchant, Great Grapes, and Wine 'n Things) and do the free tastings. They have emails they send every week withs pecials and whats being sampled that week. Try something other than what grocery store wine suppliers push. The more you try the more you realize that what you thought was stupendous before really wasn't all that great.

I'd say my favorite red right now is Martin Family Russian River Pinot Noir (runs about $17-$19 per bottle by the case, probably about $25-$27 single) and is just amazing, especially in a good glass. RIght now my favorite whites are the Domaine de la Denante Saint-Veran (white Burgundy, like a Pouilly-Fuisse) and the Bedford Road Sauvignon Blanc (I just love SB's out of NZ for some reason). Oh and these two run me less than $12 per bottle by the case if I remember correctly.
