I'm playing MOHAA Spearhead on a 2.53 GHz 784MB system with a GF4 TI4200 installed.
Frequently (always less that 10 minutes into play) the game will lock up, locking up the entire system. When it locks I hear a loud screaching sound thru the speakers. One time it actually reset the system in the middle of play, but most often I get the lockups,
I tried loading them most recent nVidia GeForce drivers (dated 11-22-05) but that was no help. I have checked the system log and there aren't any errors there. I have no other problems with this PC at all.
Anyone know what else I can look at or try to fix this? 11/29/2005 5:50:42 PM |

Does it only happen during multiplayer or is single player affected too? 11/29/2005 7:46:23 PM |

Well it is possible for a machine to be too fast for a game, but MOHAA is only like 3 yrs old so I would highly doubt it. 11/30/2005 7:16:09 AM |

get memtest and run it, random crashes can often be attributed to bad RAM http://www.memtest.org/ 11/30/2005 9:25:17 AM |

monitor temps first - it could be the heat then check the memory under stress (memtest and other apps like photoshop or whatever) otherwise try a different vid card. it may be dying. 11/30/2005 9:32:36 AM |

^ right after lockup, i felt the graphics card proc heatsink and the cpu heatsink and neither were too warm so i dont think its a heat issue. I'll run a memtest 11/30/2005 11:09:22 AM |

i turned off texture compression and set the texture filter to bilinear (from trilinear)...not that I know what that shit means...and it seems to have fixed it. 12/5/2005 12:57:41 AM |
