Interfax news agency separately quoted a source as saying the deal, which would also include modernizing Iran's air force and supplying some patrol boats, was worth more than $1 billion. The move, likely to irritate Israel and the United States, could strain Moscow's efforts to broker a deal between Iran and European negotiators aimed at breaking a deadlock over Tehran's nuclear program. Israel in particular is nervous about Iran's military potential after President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said in October that Israel should be "wiped off the map" -- comments condemned by Russia at the time. WEST SUSPECTS IRAN Russia's Defense Ministry declined to comment on the deal. Officials at state arms exporter Rosoboronexport, Russia's state defense supplier, were not available for comment. Western countries suspect Iran of seeking nuclear weapons under the cover of a civilian atomic program, which Tehran denies, saying it wants only to generate electricity. Russia is helping Iran build its first nuclear reactor and is preparing to launch it next year. Some in the West fear that Iran could use Russian know-how to make sensitive weapons. The defense industry source told Interfax there were no international restrictions on selling weapons to Iran. "Moreover, practically all the weapons that Russia is delivering to Iran in the coming years are defensive rather than offensive in character," the source said. One Western diplomat who closely watches Russia-Iran dealings said news of the deal was alarming and would further increase tensions. Look, Iran is no threat to the United States. Just like Iraq wasn't a threat. The talk about Iraq's WMDs and connections to bin Laden, and that Saddam was going to give nukes to terrorists to attack America...IT WAS ALL LIES. The same thing is going on here with Iran. The elite want us to go to war against Iran, so they're cooking up lies to get us scared just like they did before we invaded Iraq. It's all for public consumption to create the "public support" for a war.

Anyways, the whole thing is being controlled behind the scenes by the elite who want war. So, of course they're going to sell arms to both sides in preparation for any future coming conflict.

While the Iraq situation was fucked up, I dont believe for one second that IRAN is not a threat to the US. They OPENLY hate us and Russia (who isnt our biggest fan and a former world power enemy with a grudge) is now contracting weapons to them. That is both scary and believable.

EVERYBODY hates the U.S. these days. They hate us because of the illegal, criminal, brutal, insane actions of our criminal government. Iran, and most other Arab middle-eastern countries, used to be allies of the United States who respected America and Americans. You don't have to "hope". It's the reality. Just try to get over stupid soundbites and look at what's actually happening. The only country that used nukes on anyone is the US. And at the very least a significant part of their population supports that act to this day. That's just a fact. The US is the country that attacked more other countries int he last 60 years than anybody else. That's also a fact. If a war starts in the nearest future, big chances are the US will be the one initiating it.

The US is the major threat to world peace. It's as simple as that. Note that I'm not saying that the US is universally evil. Saying that would be ridiculous. On the inside, the US is overall better than most of other countries, and maybe the best. But American foreign policy is stupid and dangerous. They start wars with irrelavant countries and they try to overthrow legitimate governments. They are the biggest threat. Does it mean you should put a tinfoil and crawl to the cemetery? No. Just get yourself enough nukes to ensure the US will not dare attacking you. Then by all means try to be friends with America, trade, and cooperate on other issues.

Iran is a threat to Israel, remember the whole "Israel should be wiped off the face of the earth" comment by the Iranian preisdent. Iran is using its nuclear program to create weapons which will eventually be used to destroy Israel.

Isreal will not allow Iran to become a nuclear power, and they will attack the reactors in Nantanz before they become operational, just like did with Iraq's Osirak reactor in 1981. These missiles are for the sole purpose of shooting down Israeli planes.

No matter how you feel about the war in Iraq, a nuclear Iran is something we simply cannot accept. Especially since they are probably the worlds largest state sponsor of terrorism.
