That speech always nearly makes me cry.... Jimmy V was a great person. It's sad that he can't be remembered as the face of NCSU like Dean is for UNC and K for Duke.
His Reynolds speech was even better.
Every year about this time reminds me why I will never support NandO

Probably too long to post here.
Basically, they were completely responsible for starting a witch hunt on his head. About 3 or 4 of their journalists made claims that major alumni were contacting them and discussed Valvano paying his players large sums of money during recruitment, that his players were completely out of control....writing completely fabricated stories from "anonymous" boosters with the inside story on how V's players were just animals and an embarrasment to the ACC, about how V gave special "gifts" to players families in need....just about anything ridiculous that would make us look bad, they said it...at a time in the process where it was all rumors swirling (Mostly started by them). These stories got around to the national media, and before the investigation was even complete, V was viewed as the most backhanded coach in the nation. Despite what the outcome of the investigation was.... NandO had already painted V's image as a lying, cheating, and win at all costs parson....nationally....
After the 3 separate NCAA investigations the only thing we were found guilty of was our players selling their complimentary shoes and ACC tournament basketball tickets (Which V didn't know about). Problem was, NandO had made him look so bad and started such a witch hunt on him, we fired him to save our own public image. As a matter of fact, the chief investigating officer in V's investigation wrote him a letter saying when he came down here he expected to meet the most underhanded and slick coach in the nation.... instead he found a terribly misunderstood and misrepresented man. He even went as far as to tell V that if he had a son, it would be an honor for him to play for Coach Valvano.
I believe about 3-4 people were fired from NandO after this scenario. I also hear they made an "issue of public apology" and assured Pack fans that the News & Observer will focus more on fair and unbiased triangle media. It's gotten better... but it's still far from good.
