Normally its 70 on the highway 40 near Exit 312, but now its a work zone...
I was doing 77 in a 60. 17 over...
Anyone got advice to not pay 360 bucks? Don't they do a prayer for judegement the first time where they will reduce it?
I gotta go to court January 26th...so if I pay it in full and not contest it won't my insurance go way up? 12/11/2005 2:29:29 PM |

get an attorney. Regardless of what people say in this thread from here on, an attorney, though costing you more, will take care of you in the best way possible. You won't have to appear in court, he'll probably try to get it dropped via "improper equipment" or whatever. Don't try to do it on your own, though. I hate to say "buy your way out of it" but.... that's pretty much what you do. That, and don't ever speed again. Keep it < 9 over 12/11/2005 2:34:11 PM |

dude if its your first time, just go to the DA and ask for it to be dropped to 9 over 12/11/2005 2:37:42 PM |

I agree, lawyers are stupid in this situation.
Go to court, talk to the DA and I GUARANTEE they will drop the ticket to 69 in a 60. State of NC gets their money ($125) and your insurance doesn't go up because 9MPH over doesn't affect insurance. 12/11/2005 2:39:04 PM |

Thats what I was thinking..a prayer for judgement being its my first time...but the whole work zone is the key thing.
They weren't even working today!
I really thought I was out of the work zone, and thats why I was thinking 77 in a 70...but whatever, the officer told me the cones I had just passed approx 2000 let you know that.
I was like hmm...yeah meaning I was out right?..but didn't say anything cause I was kinda nervous. 12/11/2005 2:42:58 PM |

dont do prayer for judgement. can you not read?? go talk to the DA on your courtdate and there's about a 99% chance he'll reduce it to 69 in a 60 which won't do shit to your insurance. also, if he won't drop it you can easily ask for it to be continued so you can hire an attorny and then the lawyer can take care of it for you.
using a pjc for something this small is retarded--i've gotten tickets for closer to 30 over and careless/reckless driving tickets and still haven't used a pjc and have nothing on my record 12/11/2005 2:45:27 PM |

pjc=if you ever get anything again you'll get stuck with both the new and old tickets at the same time. getting it reduced is a whole different thing and your best option. if it hadnt been in a work zone it'd be a little easier--but my lawyers have always managed to get those dismissed as well 12/11/2005 2:49:27 PM |

just go to court, the da will ask you when your last ticket was, and you can say "i've never had a ticket." If you get it reduced to 9 over, which I'm sure he/she will do, it won't affect your insurance. If you just have one ticket/accident on your record, your insurance will overlook it.
when you go to court, you just have to pay court costs. save your pfj for when you get caught driving drunk and high, with an underage, communist, illegal alien naked in your car. don't use it for something that can be so easily resolved.
hope that helps 12/11/2005 2:55:49 PM |

see my old thread on this...There's a lot of good advice in it. I got one on 40, 77 in a 65. They reduced it and that was it. 12/11/2005 3:44:57 PM |

Hey man, go in and see what your options are. You will probably be able to just get it dropped to 9 over without having to use your PFJ at all. Then you will just have to pay the fine and the court costs. It will be about $125 or something. If it turnes out that its worse because of the work zone thing and you cant get it dropped or whatever, try the PFJ and the whole thing should get dropped and you will only have to pay the court costs.
Don't get a lawyer until you have exausted all your other options. If you get one dropped to 9 over, insurance won't go up. If you get another one though, it will go up. Insurance won't get any records of the ticket if you use PFJ. Once you get 2 tickets and do both of these, then you want to get a lawyer because your insurance will go up way too much. THe lawyer will get you off scott-free, just pricy. 12/12/2005 11:39:27 AM |

Actually, they probably will, it will simply be listed as a PJC with whatever you plead guilty to.12/12/2005 11:42:31 AM |

That will only happen if it you get pulled for doing something within 3 yrs of the original ticket. After those 3 years I think you have another PFJ.12/12/2005 11:43:18 AM |

you got what you deserve for speeding in a workzone.
on 85 northbound its amazing how many people speed in the 55mph zone around spencer. i was going 70 and people were flying past me like was some granny in the right lane. its gonna suck if they get a 20+ in a workzone 12/12/2005 12:40:39 PM |

I don't deny I was speeding, but I was pretty sure I was out of the workzone as there were no more orange cones and construction there. 12/12/2005 12:51:25 PM |

Getting your speed dropped to <9 over is fine and dandy for your insurance, but it won't reduce your fee any for a work zone violation. Any speeding ticket in a work zone is $250, no matter the speed.
In my uneducated opinion, a lawyer isn't gonna help you on this one any more than you can yourself. You can easily get it dropped to 9 over by talking to the DA. Unless your lawyer is a miracle worker who can get the thing dropped completely, you're gonna pay $250 + court fee. 12/12/2005 3:27:13 PM |

Mine was $500 for speeding in a work zone and careless/reckles..that included court costs and he got everything dismissed. Call James Crouch..he can tell you a total price and what will most likely happen 12/12/2005 6:39:38 PM |

speeding ticket #1: DA will most likely reduce it to <9 over, pay the money and it won't go on your insurance
speeding ticket #2 within 3 years of ticket #1: then and only then do you use your pjc, still no hike in insurance rates,
speeding ticket #3 within 3 years: You're fucked both in driving record and insurance even if it's <9 over.
getting a lawyer prolly won't help you much (in my limited experience) if your ticket is in Wake county, because there's no reduction to improper equipment in Wake and several other counties in the state. 12/13/2005 1:03:39 AM |

for me...
my first ticket: improper equipment second ticket: improper equipment
My dad just wrote a letter to the DA beforehand about how I was a student and such, and higher insurance would be a burden, and I was a good kid, and to give me a chance. The DA was friendly enough, and offered improper equipment. This was in Johnston Co., though and Wake may be tougher. I suggest perhaps contacting the assistant DA beforehand, see if he will help you out. 12/13/2005 1:09:13 AM |

^ yes... this thread is a repeat... go do some searching
also, there's no improper equipment in Wake Cty... so I'm not exactly sure where 312 is... but if 295 is Wake Cty... it's pretty damn close.
look on the other threads, make sure you pay $$ for a lawyer who gives a darn. I thought I had, but ended up having to use my prayer for judgement on not coming to a full stop in a little po-dunk town that I know no one was coming... and it was 3am and I hadn't seen a car for the past 20 miles.
Crouch, or something like that... is a guy that a bunch of the guys who get periodic speeding tickets use on here... supposedly he's really good... works magic. (I think he just postpones until he gets a judge he knows... a friend of mine got a ticket... and it's still being postponed by him... it's been atleast 4 months.)
good luck. 12/14/2005 12:01:26 AM |
