i picked up a sony dsc-s90 as a christmas gift for 199 at best buy. it has 3x optical zoom, 2.5 in display, and 4.1mega-pixels.
i mainly bought it because it has a large display. its a christmas gift for my dad, who's eyes aren't as good as they used to be. 12/12/2005 12:59:51 AM |

Also try newegg and http://www.beachcamera.com for low prices without the sketch. For $200, anything by Canon or sony is going to be good. 12/12/2005 10:45:56 AM |

Just got one. Love it.
Consumer Reports rated it the #1 digital camera under $400, and I haven't been dissapointed.
I got mine on sale at Best Buy last week for $199 (regularly $250)

Im looking between a Canon A520 and Canon A610
Does anyone have any recommendations between these two? The main difference im looking for is battery life, delay between pictures and the sturdiness of the camera. 12/13/2005 4:04:43 PM |

For a point and shoot, I'd honestly go with kodak. Mine has been great, and they've continually been rated best in image quality in that market.
Anything else, I'd go Canon or Nikon. 12/13/2005 4:29:44 PM |

i got a Canon SD450 yesterday and it's great. it runs around $300, but you could get one of the older SD300 or SD400 for cheaper. 12/13/2005 4:35:31 PM |

I bought my Canon S1 from beach camera last year. They usually have great sales around this time of year.12/13/2005 4:38:30 PM |

and pay attention to the batteries. AA's are the way to go if you plan on using it often. rechargeables = savings.
we have a "daily shooter" - fuji finepix. 5.2mp, 3x optical, AA batteries. around $200. perfectly fine little camera for shooting pics of people, vacations, etc.12/13/2005 4:58:57 PM |

Yeah, AA is garbage, they don't last nearly as long as a battery pack. 12/13/2005 7:16:54 PM |

i got my parents the Canon A520 a couple months ago from Dell for $150. It's a good camera for the price. It goes through standard AA batteries pretty quickly. My plan when i got it was to give them camera accessories for Christmas including rechargable batteries, SD card, etc. It has been tough trying to make sure they didn't go buy all that stuff themselves before now. 12/13/2005 11:19:27 PM |
