haha im not anti-herb. i know we run a very much modified version of that offense and we have better players to do so. i just thought it was funny that so many people think we run strictly the princeton offense when we clearly dont, because look at where it got them...a place in the record books for all time sucking ass.

Uh, Princeton hasn't exactly been running the Princeton offense either for the past couple of years.

Since changing coaches, they've had a huge problem getting a rhythm going.

On Wednesday night, at least, the Wolfpack backed that claim.

i dont understand why we coin our offense "Princeton Offense"....they suck. maybe if they were amazing we could name our offense after it.

But we are a slow, methodical, thinking type of offense that seems to have gained its own reputation as doing just that, especially through our tournament run last year and ACC games. i think people just recognize it as NCSTATE OFFENSE.

it is what it is. i think our team will do a lot better this year because we have very athletic players that will create on their own when given the opportunity. its alllll about the opportunity.

^^ um, we call it the Princeton Offense because it is built off of Princeton's signature offense. Yes, we bring more size and speed to the table, but the same ideals are applied.

It's kind of funny to see people bitch about how slow our offense is.

Someone over on the PackPride boards actually pulled up the stats from conference play last year, and it turns out we averaged 0.9 points less per game than GT last year (71.2 vs. 72.1).

Slow and boring, indeed.

^another sports talk idiot who doesn't know how to interpret statistics. how can you possibly draw the conclusion that we are not slow and boring based on that comparison. If it says anything, it says GT sucked on offense, too.

It doesn't comment on style of play, which is what "slow and boring" does. You could, you know, try to actually watch games and use your brain to draw a conclusion.

FYI, GTs style of play was to dribble the ball for five minutes, drive, and make a reckless shot and turnover. That's slightly better than watching guys jack up 3s.

Apparently you didn't pay much attention over the last two years, because I'd say there's a pretty consistent impression across the country that GT plays "exciting," high-scoring basketball. Our "fans," on the other hand, think that we just play low-scoring games and run the clock out.

Turns out neither one is true.

And yes, I've watched every single game in the past few seasons that was either televised or I could attend, and listened to the others on the radio, and I don't think our style is the least bit boring. I think it's great basketball.

What does fans having an incorrect impression of GT basketball have to do with NCSU running a boring, slow offense. That's an error of logic on your part. no sequitur, bitch.

Furthermore, no one gives a fuck if you get a boner over backdoor cuts. The majority of people find our offense boring and slow, and that's what matters. Low scoring = boring no matter how you slice it.

I love this -- some asshole snob comes in and tells us the basketball games that we watch year in and year out with our own eyes is actually exciting!! If you can do that, you can start a fast food restaurant that sells shit.

Any honest, reasonable, heterosexual fan will agree that our offense is clearly one of the most boring offenses in division 1 basketball. We can easily see that with our eyes. We can easily compare ourselves to more exciting teams. We can easily substantiate our slow style with figures. What more do you want -- a religious conversion to the cult of sendek?

Oh my god, don't start in on your bullshit faux-Soap-Box bitching again.

The last time we did this, you spent an hour spewing total bullshit that never addressed a single point in the argument.

And you STILL don't make any sense.

Quote :

Check the FACTS. We are NOT any more of a low-scoring team than the "high-speed" offenses.

Quote :
"The majority of people find our offense boring and slow, and that's what matters."

Those people don't watch the games, and you don't either apparently.

For the last two years, and this season as well, we've made great use of fast-paced transition scoring.

WE DON'T DO IT WHEN THE LANES ARE CUT OFF AND IT WOULD BE STUPID.

Quote :
"What does fans having an incorrect impression of GT basketball have to do with NCSU running a boring, slow offense. "

Because obviously, from this board and all the other fan talk, impressions are the only thing people argue about. My point was all about impressions, and you decided to change the subject entirely.

Just for the hell of it:

So far this season, we're averaging 76.1 ppg. (The highest in the conference is UMD, at 84.6ppg.)

Take out Iowa, and we're averaging 81.3ppg.

Take out the top outlier for balance, and we're at 79.5ppg.

OMG our scores are sooooo low!!!111!!!one

^ exactly. i love when faggots like these ^^ orgasm about how we are lighting up app state. APP STATE IS THE OUTLIER YOU MORON. when we actually face tough teams, that's the scoring average that counts. Why don't you take your dumb brain and figure out the average against real teams, not the cupcakes.

Not that this season counts yet, but you fucking posted the evidence that shows how slow the offense is. Our exciting offense averaged 71 points last year (on a cupcake heavy schedule)!!! YOU ARE SO DUMB YOU CANT EVEN INTERPRET YOUR OWN STATS. Oh boy, we were lighting it up -- just running down the court.

Never fucking mind that our players and coaches describe the offense as "forcing the opponent to play for 30 seconds in hopes of lulling them to sleep."

Quote :
"Because obviously, from this board and all the other fan talk, impressions are the only thing people argue about. My point was all about impressions, and you decided to change the subject entirely.

No, jackass. The point is that you don't even understand your own point.

You:

1. People were wrong about GT having a high scoring offense because they only scored 72 ppg.
2. Maybe people were wrong about NCSU having a boring offense too!!!!

Now, let me fix it for you and create an argument that is actually valid:

1. People were wrong about GT having a high scoring offense because they only scored 72 ppg.
2. People were right about NCSU having a slow, boring offense because they only scored 71 ppg (this is your own evidence, douche).

GASP. It turns out that people's impression of GT was wrong but people's impression of NCSU was right. The whole GT example is a red herring, but I don't expect you to put together a logical argument just as I dont expect that you are able to tie your shoes.

p.s. Is "dont turn this in to a soap box argument" code for "i'm an idiot?"

Wow, you fucking moron. AGAIN YOU CAN'T READ SENTENCES. The 71.2 ppg was IN CONFERENCE PLAY. LEARN HOW ENGLISH WORKS. YOU PUT WORDS TOGETHER AND THEY MAKE SENTENCES.

And on a side note, the scoring figures for this year are for EVERYONE playing cupcakes. And we're right up there with them.

My god, you aren't even worth arguing with.

^
http://kenpom.com/stats.php?y=2005&s=4

GT averaged 71.3 possessions per game (69th overall) with the 86th-ranked offensive efficiency.
NCSU averaged 65.4 possessions per game (288th overall) with the 16th-ranked offensive efficiency.

We were 33rd in the country in effective FG% (weighted for 3-pointers), with only UNC and Wake ahead of us from the ACC. And this was despite basically only playing at full strength for 2/3rds of the season...

this thread turned gay when yall started arguing pointless facts

we run a slow yet precise and effective offense...so what...we win dont we

GT compares to us...good, proves that the ACC was deep last year and equal minus UNC

% this % that...what matters is who got further or had a better record and rating, who cares what % of Gtechs water boys are catholic

guys...if u are gonna argue stuff that has no point really just to see which one of you can go on an ego trip for a longer time...please PM each other

and until we are the coach, talkin about our system has no effect...so why comment on something we cant change

My name is JT3bucky and I support our system.

^I agree with all of that.

It just pisses me off when people attack the team so early in the season.

Herb has brought us back from being absolutely nothing to back-to-back 20-win seasons, four straight tournament appearances, and a Sweet 16, and there's a lot to love about the current team.

Obviously the system is accomplishing something.

But I'm done here.

Herb says he prefers to call it the "NC State Offense"

whatever the fuck it is, it bit us hard in the ass in the Wake game, and even the commentators were saying how we get next to NO offensive rebounds because all our guys (including the centers) are standing outside the 3 point line after a shot is taken

I don't understand an offense that would rely on someone making a shot every time the ball is shot

why the fuck didn't Herb just realize that they were all being retarded, and no one was even close to the basket?

we wouldn't have lost the Wake game (twice) if they would just get some damn offensive rebounds and 2nd chance opportunities, it's really that simple

we would have won the fucking game against Wake, and at least have advanced past one team, if our bastards hadn't been lazy and would grab some god damn boards and use their size every once in a while

The fact that they never hustled for rebounds has nothing to do with the offense.

For the last three weeks, it hasn't been that we're out of position. We get beat for rebounds even if we're in perfect position.
