I think its that people are tired of something being labeled "AMAZING!!1" simply because its a hot topic or nontraditional. It falls into the whole indie music deal where it can't be good unless its a nobody or something that goes against mainstream appeal in every facet.

heath ledger and jake gyllenhaal are 2 of the hottest actors in hollywood. if you won't see it, other people will. they probably took these roles because they are diverse actors who like to try new things.

just because it doesn't appeal to you, doesn't mean you should bash it. fyi, jake gyllenhaal was in "Jarhead" recently so that should satisfy your need for a film with machismo.

This part of the prediction is true so far. Critics love this film at least in part because it is unconventional. I have heard more glowing reviews for this film than any other film in recent memory. Some people really want it to succeed.

Now over the next few weeks we'll find out if all that hype is warranted.

Most of the reviews have praised it for just being a really good conventional romance.


And the reviews actually haven't been as "through the roof" as one might have expected. It's sitting at 87 on Metcritic, which puts it tied with four other movies as the third highest rated movie of 2005. Seven movies in 2004 and six in 2003 had higher ratings scores.
