GrumpyGOP
TGD

though, I agree with them often enough, we generally have opposing views, socially and politically.

Hmmm. I'm inclined to say DirtyGreek, for two main reasons:

1) To my knowledge he has never pissed me off to the point that I would have taken a great perverse pleasure out of slapping him in the throat with a shovel. I cannot say this about most of my other opponents.
2) His positions are laughably nonthreatening. Arguing against "green anarchy" strikes me as kind of like using a riding lawn mower -- yeah, it could use doing occasionally, but I can zone out completely and listen to music while I do and afterwords I feel a a sense of accomplishment not entirely merited by the small effort it entailed.

That sounded more insulting than I originally intended.

Oh, and also PvtJoker, because he gave me a shout-out just then.

^^ thanks I think you've probably pissed me off more than you should have at times, but you're not as bad as some. I don't know that I have a "favorite" opponent, primarily because I disagree heavily with most of you at some point.

haha thx Joel. I'll have to agree, you're one of the few cool liberals here.

I'd also have to throw in Gamecat. the only unapologetic Communist I've met that I'd actually add to my advisory staff when I'm running the country...

DG Gamecat or MathFreak. We rarely rarely agree on things, but it's always fun to debate with people who provide a challenge. Probably the only three people that have made me do any real research to debate a point.

There is no way MathFreak should be on anyone's list. There's a difference between "challenging" and "obnoxious." Same with Socks``. And yes, I'm telling you who to like and not like. You will learn to like it or you will be broken.

And Gamecat would have made the list back in the day, but then he went through that weird period where he was just super angry at everyone, then he had some kind of catharsis and now 80% of his posts are unintelligible.

I'd have to vote for Gamecat as well. He never says sometihng just to be talking or to be infalmmatory. He takes everything he says to heart and probably cares too much about his beliefs. Definitely one of the more intelligent and well-read people on here too. Oh and I played in a hockey game against him once and feel bad for slashing him.

yeah, i'll put Gamecat on my list. I wouldn't mind having him as an advisor when I get elected, either.

I respect DirtyGreek for having genuinely some of the best intentions. Sounds like he's a good guy. I think he's a nut, though--it's like he knows that his positions are asinine, but doesn't really care. You can't really get mad at him or call him a dumbass, though. He knows what he's talking about, and is fully aware that he's off the deep end.

and i generally like PvtJoker posts, but he doesn't frequent the Soap Box enough for me to have a good handle on his political mind.

That's one thing that gets me about that filthy Balkan bastard -- he is quick to confess his own rampant hypocrisy and the numerous breakdowns in his philosophy, and yet, there he is, still having it.

Probably DirtyGreek or GameCat. Sure, there are times that I get annoyed with them, but at least they write intelligently and mean well. I'll also throw pryderi on that list as well, though I wish he'd give up on his unhealthy obsession with the Republican Party.

I actually enjoy reading MathFreak and find myself agreeing with him or at very least, understanding his viewpoint most of the time.

LoneSnark, He seems to have good grasp of economic concepts, so most of our disagreemnts are philosophical in nature. That's the way it should be. Not to mention he's a nice guy in person.

drhavoc mentioned me as an opposite. i've always considered him a level headed conservative. He's clear about his philosophy, he is willing to criticize the administration, and he seems to seems to have a good understanding of economics to boot. But I don't see our selves as political opposites. I think I'm just working off a broader scale. DHavoc is certainly a small government conservative, but I see that as less extreme than the no-government-anarcho-capitalist LoneSnark tends toward being. I see Havoc as a fellow moderate between anarchy and socialism.

Honorable mention to TGD and Keynes

I'll give my awards to TGD and Grumpy. I may not agree with them that often, but I will say that they make good arguments about most of their ideas.

The least would go to GGMon and Tha Big Girl, but I'm sure that is the same for everyone, no matter where you are on the political spectrum.

In old fashion Soap Box tradition, prepare for a quote bomb.

Quote :
"TGD: the only unapologetic Communist I've met that I'd actually add to my advisory staff when I'm running the country..."

For the hundredth time, I'm not a fucking Communist--that'd be my fiancé. I doubt there's a political classification for what I am. These days even anarcho-libertarian doesn't even seem to fit anymore.

Quote :
"GrumpyGOP: And Gamecat would have made the list back in the day, but then he went through that weird period where he was just super angry at everyone, then he had some kind of catharsis and now 80% of his posts are unintelligible."

1. Get a car, Grumpy.
2. Red bugs shoot noon blue apples eating orange humans.

Quote :
"msb2ncsu: He takes everything he says to heart and probably cares too much about his beliefs. ... Oh and I played in a hockey game against him once and feel bad for slashing him."

That bore repeating. I blame that for why most people with whom I argue (even those who agree with me), tend not to like me.

Quote :
"theDuke866: yeah, i'll put Gamecat on my list. I wouldn't mind having him as an advisor when I get elected, either."

Recommendation #1: Abolish the standing army.

Made ya look.

Quote :
"RedGuard: Probably DirtyGreek or GameCat. Sure, there are times that I get annoyed with them, but at least they write intelligently and mean well."

Your inclusion of me shocked me the most, honestly--though I was shocked by all of them except TGD's. I can't remember a single time we've ever had a debate. I've even tried to bait you before, but you never bit.

--- (© TGD 1999(?))

My favorite political opposite?

It'd have to be a tie. Smoker4 back when he used to post at all, and TGD back when he used to post seriously.

Truth told, I love to debate with anyone whose opinions aren't quite hardwired into their brains and confused with fact.

I'm actually probably much, much closer to being a Constitutionalist (and a strict interpreter at that)... but thanks.

I'll agree with you that you're probably not really an opposite, but I find that your arguments are at least as sound as mine, and quite often moreso... at least they make me think.

I guess I was thinking more philosophically than actual locking horns in debate. If we're talking about the latter, it would have to be Smoker4, and that was pretty much on one single issue, the benefits and harm of legalizing drugs.

Yeah, I guess I avoid going into long debates because I've found them exhausting, especially when they start going circular.
