Quote : | "Matt Groening has faith in the relaunch of Futurama, writes Michael Idato.
Nearly four years after it was cancelled, the popularity of Futurama on DVD could breathe life back into the animated television series. On the subject of a rumoured resurrection, creator Matt Groening, best known for his other animated hit, The Simpsons, says, intriguingly: "You never know."
Such a trail was blazed in 2004 by another animated series, Family Guy. Fuelled by DVD sales and high-rating reruns, it spawned a direct-to-DVD film and two seasons of television episodes.
The move caught the television industry by surprise, and left several lost properties, including Futurama, ripe with possibility." |

Futurama is my favorite tv program. Ever.
I could create very good arguments as to why it is better than anything else on the airwaves, and I'd stick to it.
So while elated at this news, I'm also very, very skeptical. They ended the program on such a wonderful and perfect note... I really don't know if I want it to come back and risk being a shell of what it used to be. 12/20/2005 7:38:59 PM |

right; but the fact that Family Guy came back gives at least a little hope ... a little.

I can't imgine Family Dad running that long. However, Simpsons did have a medeocre start. (Simpsons didn't get really good until the second or third season - ever try to go back and watch season 1? It fucking sucks. No character development, poor animation, stupid plots...)12/21/2005 9:38:57 AM |

^Not necessarily. Dr. Who for example started in the 60s and went all the way to the early 90s, and has recently started up again. Some doctors were better then others, but I don't recall any time in the series that the show wasn't quality. 12/21/2005 11:00:31 AM |

Following the hugely successful resurrection of Family Guy, Fox execs are reportedly in talks to bring Futurama back from the dead.
The studio has begun talks to revive the Emmy-winning animated series and produce a limited number of new episodes, thanks to a resurgence in the show's popularity on DVD and in reruns, Variety reports.
Reps for 20th Century Fox have declined to comment on the news, but Variety says initial negotiations have begun." |
