Is this for real? How in the world is UNC ranked above us based solely on accomplishments THIS season?

Wait, now that I think about it....did we actually FALL in the rankings from last week after a win?

EDIT: No, on the AP poll we stayed #21 for two weeks in a row. It's because it's the AP poll, and since UNC is blasted all over the media, they automatically get a better hype than anyone.
AP poll = gay.

UNC beat Kentucky on the road and almost knocked off Illinois. We lost to Iowa on the road and beat Notre Dame at a "neutral" site (really a Notre Dame home game though). The rest of our schedule has been pretty easy. I think UNC has more claim to a higher ranking. Doesn't mean shit anyway...

We've lost to Iowa(#25) they've lost to Illinios(#6) - they've beaten Kentucky (#19)

I'd say their ranking is too high, but ahead of us isn't too much of a stretch, considering.

How is Wake still there after losing to DePaul?

Yeah, and Gonzaga is still in the top 12 with 2 losses.... NC State is conveniently omitted as well....

And to those saying it doesn't matter - it does seem to matter when seeding for the tournament -

teams that are ranked high at the beginning of the season get more room to screw up and rebond than a team that is unranked, ie:

one team starts at #10, another starts Unranked. Both have the same records (let's say 18-8), with similiar quality wins the two teams won't finish the season ranked the same. One will be a #3 seed and one will be a #5.

They may be a little higher than they deserve but UNC is not bad this season.

Makes me feel uneasy about playing them.

Funniest part from the Sportsline poll:

Quote :
"Rick Pitino has a 34-3 record in December as the Cardinals' coach. All three losses have come against Kentucky."

So wait...you knew it was likely that UL would lose the game (cupcake schedule + rivalry), and somehow you still felt justified at having them #3 before.

Actually, no, having Syracuse ranked is probably the funniest part.

Jesus Christ I missed this game, but 67% shooting! Was Oklahoma playing defense or what? We should move ahead of them with that kind of showing.

not a chance. we had a good road win, but nothing worthy of jumping 8 (or 11, depending on the poll) places.

yeah we should be about 14-15th

the WVU game was awesome...I love that team. They are so well coached and run their offense so precisely...I hope they show up in the tourney again next year.

Last year when they beat WF in triple overtime I was bouncin' off the walls...what a great, classic game that was.

NC STATE

anyway, the polls are nuts. It's still way early in the season for anyone to have a feel for the top 25 teams and where they all belong. We'll see where all this goes in a month or 2

wow. The shaft that NC State gets is unbelievable.

Had Carolina went TO ALABAMA and won, they'd up like 10 spots. We didn't move at all. AT ALL.

BUT, had we lost, we'd probably drop out of the rankings while Alabama moved to like #20.

That was some of the worst carolina basketball I've ever witnessed. It was like the JV team showed up to play. Carolina would have been beaten by just about every team in the country playing they way they did on the road.

^I agree. Played a fairly weak USC team and lost by 15 and are still ranked. One good win and UNC is ranked. Wow and Kentucky is not the usual Kentucky this year.

Them being that high after getting waxed 92-68 by unranked WVU is worse than UNC being in it at all. I thought we might move ahead of them with a good road win, but I guess I was wrong.
