My computer's motherboard just died and I was wondering if anyone new where to get one for not too much? It's a Gateway 400 series laptop... 12/21/2005 5:08:52 PM |

1) how do you know it's the motherboard 2) it's very rarely worth it to replace a board on a laptop. If you get one from the manufacturer, they often only sell it with CPU included, and it will likely cost almost as much as a new computer anyway. And I don't follow Gateway model numbers, but is that an old model? You'd be better off finding a deal on a Dell Inspiron - can find a lowend one for 500-600 and a decent one for 800-1000 12/21/2005 6:01:13 PM |

It's 3 years old...the warranty was up in September and it died when I got home for Thanksgiving. I hate to get rid of it cause it just got paid off. 12/22/2005 10:28:49 AM |

you can either buy a new one for a hell of a lot less than you paid for that one which will be a much better computer
or
spend just as much money fixing that one and be left with the same 3 year old computer
[and yeah, how do you know for sure it is the motherboard anyways?] 12/22/2005 10:38:26 AM |

I had it looked at by a friend who knows a lot about computers. The computer is getting power to it, but it won't turn on. It won't even attempt to start. Any other suggestions on what it could be if it's not the motherboard? 12/27/2005 4:08:26 PM |
