I recently reformatted my computer, before I could click on a mpeg thumbnail on a website in internet explorer and it would play the file in windows media player, now it plays them in the internet explorer window using quicktime. I've changed the file types multiple times for both quicktime and windows media player, but it still plays the video using quicktime in internet explorer. How do i get these files to play in windows media player instead?

I have no idea if this would work or if you have tried this but have you checked:

My Computer -> Folder Options -> File Types -> MPEG

and make sure that is set to Windows Media Player. Internet explorer might use something else though.

you changed the setting for the file formats on QuickTime & you also did such for Internet Explorer's settings?

also - go to Media Player settings & find where to set it as your default player.

Open windows media player

Tools->Options->File Types->

Check all the file types. Most likely the mpeg box will be greyed because it's sharing with Quicktime. Click it to make it a white box with a check in it. Check any others you want.

Hit Apply then OK.

Reopen IE and enjoy.
