"was" implies past tense.

Christ, and you're a writer.

Jesus christ.

Deraney was good this year but last year he was fucking terrible.

This guy is totally unthreadworthy, seeing as how he is a junior.

Remember when he was a freshman and only doing kickoffs, and everyone was like "OH SHIT, here comes Deraney, watch him boom this one out of the end zone"...and then he did?

Thems was good times.

Kickers kind of have to be cocky--so much of their success just depends on their mental approach.

He was one of my students this past semester (I was a TA) and he wasn't even the cockiest person in his class. Hell, Will Roach back in the day was more cocky than him.

Not saying he wasn't cocky at all, but I have met many more cocky folks around campus (who have no reason to be cocky) than he is.

Deraney misses a decent amount of field goals too, though his punting has gotten a lot better.

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/player/profile?playerId=134141

has him at 15/18, with two misses from 30-39 yds, and one miss at 50+.

They must be missing a couple...even their kicking stats on the next page lists him at 15/20.

the 18 probably doesn't include the two misses at the USF game, which was by far, his worst all around game of the year.

We need someone to kick field goals and just use Deraney for kickoffs and punting. He can't do all three well enough.

Deraney is a solid kicker. He will not win the Groza award, but he's a pretty damn good cllege punter and he makes most of the kicks he's supposed to (i.e. PATs and 0-30 yarders, unlike Kiker). I am glad we have him.

Hell no. Leave him at field goals and kickoffs, field goals especially. Let someone else do the punting. How hard is it to find a guy to punt?
