I've hit tougher kicks than those guys, in pressure situations too.

I can't help but draw the irrelevant comparison between pro and NCAA kickers. Inside 40 yards in the pros, it's usually a lock (esp. in the middle of the field), in college, outside of the top 3 kickers nationally, it's a roller coaster. If you watch 3 college football games, you'll likely see a PAT shanked. How many times has a PAT been missed in the pros all season (blocks aside)? Totally irrelevant I know, but kickers are kickers, they don't change much physically, and a lot have soccer backgrounds, so how can college kickers be so much more inconsistent? 1/4/2006 1:39:22 AM |

Kicker is the one position where nerves have just as much if not more to do with your level of success than your actual talent or skill level. Lots of guys can kick a 50 yarder...not a lot of guys can do it down by two in front of 75,000 with 3 seconds left in the game. 1/4/2006 4:59:45 AM |

College kickers get 4 years. Pro kickers can stay in the league for a long time. Look at the good kickers in the NFL: Vinatieri - 10 years, Kasay - 15 years, Longwell - 9 years, Vanderjagt - 8 years. That is a lot more time to develop.
Also note that teams won't draft or sign multiple kickers, so depth is really shallow there. NFL kickers are the best of the best college kickers, and the lifespan of one is so long that the league becomes incredibly stacked at that position.1/4/2006 11:11:02 AM |

Also keep in mind that the tick marks in the pros are closer to the center of the field. So extreme left and right kicks in the ncaa's are harder.

it does have a point. if a conferences bcs representative doesnt finsish in the top 10 of the bcs standings for 3 yrs in a row they could lose their automatic berth.
fsu didnt finish in the top 10, if it happens twice more, this game can be used as evidence that they deserved to be there. 1/4/2006 2:07:42 PM |
packboozie All American 17452 Posts user info edit post |
Then what is the point of the thread? Proving that FSU belongs in a BCS bowl...which it automatically got because they won the ACC...they were not chosen.
So the point of this thread is saying FSU deserved to be there? NO FUCKING SHIT. They won their division and beat Virginia Tech to get in. They EARNED their way in unlike Notre Dame. 1/4/2006 2:10:17 PM |
rwoody Save TWW 37693 Posts user info edit post |
nd earned there way in as well, as far as the rules go which is all you are referring to.
his pt is that the bcs is intended for the top 8 teams in the nation and before the game many thought fsu did not belong in that group. 1/4/2006 2:12:02 PM |
Smath74 All American 93278 Posts user info edit post |
yeah no fucking shit they got into the bowl because they beat Va Tech in the acc championship. the point of the thread was that people thought they made it in by a lucky break, but in fact, they really had the talent to compete in this bowl, and they proved it last night. 1/4/2006 5:11:40 PM |

FSU is highly underated at #22. They just had a few problems to work out and they did but I think they are clearly a top 10 team. They were one extra point away and the game may not have even gone to overtime. But if if's and but's were candy and nuts, we'd have a merry christmas everyday. 1/4/2006 5:12:11 PM |

Um, no. They CLEARLY are NOT a Top 10 team. They have 5 losses. They lost to us. They have the same record as us.

I don't even agree with that. The UGa-WVU game was far more exciting. Less mistakes, penalties, just as good a finish. It just wasn't as long...
V I mean it was a good game but WVU was supposed bigger underdogs then FSU was I believe. Oh well.. at least they were both good games.. really all 3 have been pretty good so far.

while the other two BCS games so far were pretty hyped up to be exciting, this game was more exciting than both IMO. people like jay marriotti said PSU would stomp FSU and they were sadly mistaken, which was the best part of the whole thing.
