I picked this up in Ohio the day after Thanksgiving. I was going to hold out for a Z06, but I couldn't justify the extra $8k. Especially not since I'm probably not going to do much racing anymore.

So, what kind of racing did you do?

Also, is it an automatic?

Sick, dude. SO much potential.

Beyond that, just a pretty car in general.

I do suggest ridding yourself of the embarassment that is/are those wagon wheels.

This thread has gone out of control.

BTW, his stealth was the heat.

But yeah, rid yourself of those horrid wheels

Z06 wheels can be had for cheap - ls1tech.com/forums and ls1.com/forums

or hell...

ebay.

Nice car Dave! Vettes have really grown on me recently. You should come up to the Dragon some time, drive that thing on some twisty roads and learn to drive fast when turning instead of in a straight line

nice car...definetly not worth it to get a Z06...get a small cam and have the heads ported a little and you'll be ahead of a stock Z06 and save yourself a few grand easy

and obviously with the wheels/brake duct added nobody could tell the difference

So I'm thinking of picking up one of these POS' too. Mine would see a lot of track time, I don't want to spend more than $20k, any suggestions?

optmusprimer, are you being serious w/that comment? I don't mind high miles the least bit, but I hear there are some weird first year things, such as the abs pump being @the rear by the transaxle, not the most ideal set-up... If it was cheap enough...

ScHpEnXeL, it certainly sounds like you got a great deal, I'd be all over a C5 for less than $15k. Any pointers on how I can find one that cheap? What did yours need (I don't mind doing a bit of work)...
Ahmet

wtf do you care about the abs pump location on a track car?

I don't like the fact that all brake lines come from the master cylinder infront of the car, run all the way back to behind the rear axle (under the car mind you), to the abs pump, just for two of the lines to go back to the front.

I've seen a vette on which the left rear line was hit/broken under "normal" use w/out any accidents. It's bad enough I'm thinking about a domestic, I don't want to experiment with Chevy's first year blues on an all new design...

PS: It wouldn't be a "track car", I don't have enough money to turn a Vette into a track car and have only as a toy. Knowing me, it'd probably be a car I would track, drag race, drive the piss out of in general -for a few months-, then sell and move onto something else.

The car under the cover is a C4 vert. The car had ~4700 miles at purchase. David will mod the car once he gets his head out of his ass.

Mine had 150K on it when I picked it up and needed a new clutch/slave cylinder a month or so after I got it. It also needed some resistors put in the connectors the shocks originally connected to (previous owner put coilovers on it instead of the $3K factory replacement POS's) so the computer would quit giving me error codes and setting the max speed at 80mph.

All of that I knew about when I bought it and costed maybe $500 total to fix so it wasn't that bad.

Keep and eye out over on corvetteforum.com and ebay for a higher mileage one. I went from seeing this one on corvetteforum to flying to St. Louis with cash to pick it up in about two days

There's 1 track event this month, and 2 next month that I want to hit up. If I don't find a deal on a vette soon, I'm going to have to pull the trigger on something else I've been eye'ing. Please do let me know if you come across something.

Well, I already have a Volvo 740 Turbo station wagon... And most wagons I really want, I can't have in the U.S. anyway (case in point, Volvo 850 Turbo AWD, e30 325iT, e36 325iT and so on). I do need something I can track soon. I wouldn't mind adding a vintage Volvo wagon to the mix, but they're not exactly easy to come by in descent shape.

**Some late year 2000 models with Z51 option may only need the front sway bar only and all 2001-2004 with the Z51 option will only need the front sway bar**
