I had one and it would NEVER work anything better than "decent" in Raleigh. There'd be hiss all the time b/c radio stations are so jammed around here.

I'd highly recommend a tape-deck adapter or a more complex wired system to use your iPod in your car.

i got the iCar, which has a cassette adapter thingy. i can also hear the tape spinning, and i have to adjust the sound on practically all the songs.

pcmsurf- a cable from the back of a cd player? what about that for an ipod instead of a cd player?

I don't know the name of it, but my husband has a FM transmitter for the iPod that is plugged into the cigarette lighter and has a tuner on it. It works really well, as though it's the actual stereo playing.

1. buy tape adapter
2. crank the volume on the ipod to about 98%
3. profit!

by turning up the volume on the ipod, you don't have to amplify the feed coming from the tape adapter as much, thereby reducing hiss to pretty much nothing

it works better than anything except for hard wiring it in

When I worked at Best Buy we had like a million iTrips returned because they worked very poorly. I had one and it's just like SouthPaw says, there's always a background buzz of static. Luckily, my car has a tape deck so I have a high quality Monster stereo tape adapter for my iPod. Just don't take the cheap route with your tape adapter because some of them give you really sorry mono sound.

i had one, hated it. i got the griffin smartdeck instead. it connects through the dock connector, you can use the buttons on your steering wheel to skip songs, and it'll show hte song info on the display in your car.

I ended up taking off my Jeep's antenna so I could just always use 87.9. I never listen to the radio, so the loss of the other stations wasn't a big deal. Before I did it though, I could never get it to work or pick up the iPod.

I wasn't too impressed with it.

I bought one for my car, but it didn't work. I don't know if it was just crappy, or if it's because my car doesn't have an outer antenna. I also don't have a tape deck, so I'm sort of screwed on that end.

I prefer the plug in griffin to the itrip. the griffin transmittor gets a really good signal, almost as good as my XM radio

What I did with mine instead of the FM Transmitter was I mounted my iPod dock in my car and on it used the output on the dock and used a y adapter and plugged that into my stereo's aux inputs and bought a car charger which also connects to the dock....this is a bit more expensive but it sounds great and if put in the right place has a much cleaner look..only problems with this is i'll unplug it when it's charged and plug it back in when it needs to be charged, to save battery life (use it at the gym also) and it can sometime be a pain to change songs sometimes since it's not integrated to my stereo but you can buy the iPod remote if that pisses you off, i usually just let my songs shuffle so i don't really change the song much i'd say hardwire into your car if you really care about sound quality..

crutchfield.com sells a bunch of kits to integrate the ipod into the car stereo system. they have ones for different makes of cars and aftermarket systems.
