They're given one, and I'm pretty sure that you can't use it for anything other than military stuff, so if you travel on your own, you have to have your own passport.
I could be wrong.

^ yeah I can understand why the hornet choice. cherry point isn't a bad place to end up tho, quiet town, 15 mins from the beach. and the prowler community is pretty laid back for the corps (guess that one can be good or bad depending)...for example they focus more on flight ops than the predawn 5 mile runs. and since they're in ultra-high demand you'll get deployed a shit ton

you must be thinking of Beaufort, NC (pronounced Bo-fort). there's no MCAS there. the NC USMC bases are Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville and MCAS Cherry Point in Havelock.

MCAS Beaufort is in Beaufort, SC (pronounced Bew-fort). it's near Charleston, Savannah, and Hilton Head (and Parris Island)

and reguarding the question about military needing passports, back in the day, they used to let you go anywhere in the world with just your military ID card. Then some guys decided to hijack an airliner in the early 80's. They collected everyones passports and there were a few navy salvage divers on board. Well the terrorist asked what they did and there wasn't a direct translation of salvage diver in arabic, and it was translated NAVY SEAL. So they beat the guy death because of it. Guy has a navy ship named after him b/c of what happened

Ok, us non-military lurkers need definitions for all these terms please:

1. NWS
2. OPSEC
3. NAS
4. F-18 WSO or EA-6B ECMO
5. 211th MP Co
6. MCAS
7. BFE
8. SSGN 728
9. "i'm gonna request east coast Hornets, but there's still a decent chance i'll end up in Prowlers"
10. 30th BCT's MICO

Thanks.

5.211th Military Police Company(thats a guess, im not sure)
6. Marine Core Air Station
7. Bumfuck Eygpt

1. Nose Wheel Steering (pilots will get it, but for correct term, see above)
2. Operational Security
3. Naval Air Station
4. WSO/ECMO cool name for goose taking up space in the back of your jet (sorry josh had to do it, but you know i'm just ribbin)
5. 211th Military Police Company
6. Marine Corps Air Station
7. Bum Fucking Eygpt
8. SSGN 728 (could be a sub term, don't ahve a clue)
9. There are two coasts for most airframes in the navy and marine corps. East coast (bases in NC or SC) and West coast (bases in CA or AZ). Prowlers, the navy/marine corps electronic warfare aircraft, which has 1 pilot and 3 nfo's (naval flight officers) which operate all the electronic devices that jam enemy radar and give them cancer b/c they are putting out so much energy. Very nice tool cause i don't want a SAM (surface to air missle) chasing my ass one day and these guys can fool the shit out of them.
10.30th BCT MICO - don't know, some crazy army acronym by the looks of it.

4. WSO/ECMO - arguably takes up space better used for fuel or ordinance. conversely, handles all the less cool parts of flying that the pilot doesn't wanna fuck with, so he can do all the fun stuff like flying the bird and blowing shit up.

it's a trade off.

I'm about 6 flights away from my private pilot's license (should be 3-4 flights away by the end of this week), and the NFO job is going to be phased out of the USMC (although I don't know if it'll be in time to benefit me). I'm gonna try again to switch as soon as I'm allowed to start bothering the shit out of the powers that be again (after the 3rd attempt, which was denied by a brigadier general, they basically told me not to ask again until I'm a fleet NFO and someone else's problem)

The good thing is that I'm guaranteed tactical jets as an NFO, and if I manage to get switched after my first tour, flight school will surely be a pushover the second time around...all I'll have to learn will be the stick and rudder skills, and I'll have been a private pilot for several years, so that shouldn't be hard...so hopefully I'll have good odds of getting whatever bird and duty station I want.

I heard a funny story, that in Beaufort, SC, they switched some of the Hornet pilots around. So guys that used to pilot with an NFO went to a single seat to run everything, and the single seat pilot who was used to running everything on his own now had a guy in the backseat to run stuff. The biggest thing guys had to complain about was the new single seat guy was way behind and now two seat pilot had to say "We fucked up the radar intercept" when it was really the guy in teh back.
