We won't face another team this year that requires constant double teams on one player like JJ does for Duke.
With that said, we will be able to defend the three much better that tonight, which we did not do successfully.
On Offense, if we turn our priority towards dumping the ball into CED and letting our inside game open up our outside game, we have a wealth of potential ahead of us.
I know its been said before, but tonight showed a completely different aspect of wolfpack basketball, making us better, more balanced, and much more likely to be a threat late into March. This was a bad night in terms of wins and losses, but a great night as far as finding a team identity.
WE ONLY GO UP FROM HERE. 1/18/2006 10:19:45 PM |

until the acc tournament. until the ncaa tournament.
you know, when the wins matter the most. 2nd place in the acc regular season isnt worth that much. Anyone remember who was second 5 years ago? 1/18/2006 10:22:44 PM |

FINISH is the word for the rest of the season...fuck this one heartbeat shit.
This is obviously our only weakness right now.
I love the fact that in the last 2 games, we showed we can rely on Simmons if we need to, and we can balance the scoring if we need to. I wouldnt have guessed in a million years that we would shoot so bad from 3 tonight and still play a decent game. 1/18/2006 10:24:31 PM |

i still dont understand why teams double jj out there so much. nothing good can come from that if you dont trap him. youre only gonna give up a layup or an open 3 to someone who is bound to make it if theyre wide open. the rest of the team shoots over 33% 3s. paulus melchioni and dockery were wide open all night and jj still scored above his average. 1/18/2006 10:54:39 PM |

I support you Panthro. You're 100% right. We looked good tonight, we saw a different wolfpack team... one that actually goes inside. We have one helluva player in Simmons. He's our future. 1/18/2006 11:20:55 PM |

We did look good against Duke, but I also agree that we have certainly struggled with finishing. In each of our losses, we've been close right to the very end (tied w/ 3 min left to Duke and UNC). I think Herb just has to find a way to teach our players how to do a better job of keeping composure in those type of clutch situations. 1/19/2006 8:20:02 AM |

why does a 6 foot nothing guard require a double team
You just need to switch better on the picks and rotate defensively.
We didn't rotate past the first pass all night, thats why they had so many open looks.
Offensively, we were just too sloppy with the ball.
Other than that good showing. Cedric is just sick. If he's not first team all-conference (and he may not be given the writers tendency to only look at scoring) he was robbed.

and i think rally is right, we were not quik on the switch and we caught a few times not rotating. there was a lack of communication on the perimeter

actually, he has a point. we double teamed and he scored above his average. that just means the double team was ineffective. JJ was able to find the open shooter and we never forced a turnover.
Ballgame. We all know that longer, quicker, and taller guys can check him better 1 on 1. In his last 2 outings, JJ has owned atsur. 1/19/2006 8:37:26 AM |

yes, but Bennerman seemed a step slow on Defense.
I'm not sure what it was, but instances like JJ's basline crossover....He just stood there and couldnt react. I expected a little more from his defensive output. 1/19/2006 11:47:12 AM |
