is absolutely insane. I had never been before and I've never heard a crowd get so loud. Their cheers were totally in sync and pretty witty. Anyone who says its overrated is out of their mind. If anything, it was more than I expected. What a group of fans!!!

oh, and I got two tix... for absolutely free, 3 rows from the court.... that probably made it that much better.

ok that's all... i'm out.

Yeah i was there tonight too and i have been to over 50 games there before. Tonight was definitely really loud and ranks up there with some of the more memorable games i have been to. Still not as loud as it was for the unc game last year. That was just wow.

did the Crazies make any cracks on Gavin tonight? i didn't hear them heckling him through the tv, but what you see on tv is usually only a quarter of what's really going on in the building.

i was just completely ammused by all of their little chants:

"this is our house"
"pay your rent"
"if you cant go to college, go to state"
"big high school"
"start your tractors"

i have to say alot of them just made me giggle. But I was kinda lost.. why do they say "hi [insert player's name]" when they call out our starting line up? and what's with the weird sound they make.. i cant even describe it. either way it was alot of fun. Oh, and I have been to 1 game at reynolds... didnt compare darlin.

but of course that doesnt change the fact that i love the pack!

I must agree. Cameron Indoor is crazy. I went to a game last year and stood front row student section. the weird sound they make... i think is the lee melchionni chant, where they yell, "lee, lee, lee" and move their arms up.

My first trip to Cameron as well, very loud, all the time. Students were there (clogging up the bathroom putting on face paint) 45 minutes before tip and 99% of them were there 30 minutes before the game. No green cards or any mess like that that I saw. None of their fans seemed to be knowledgeable about basketball, I heard some head scratching comments from their students. Duhon's little brother is a lot bigger (obviously) than when Duhon was there, prolly going to be playing for Duke if he's any good. Coach K and JJ are God there, no two ways about it. Our admiration for Rivers his last year doesn't hold a candle. In fact, K could probobly urinate at center court and students would run to lick it up. GG had a few turnovers as usual, but he looked very comfortable out there in the midst of it. Atsur seemed to have a few breakdowns, and Cam was off and on. Don't know if noise had anything to do with any of the above scenarios, but I would venture to say Atsur looked the least comfortable.

They def. arent as good as they were in the late 80s early 90s. Those were the most fun games to go to. The chants then actually made me laugh. The big high school chant is just stupid.

yeah, when i was younger i used to love duke. once i got to state, it took me almost a whole season to pull against duke. i remember the first time i ever really pulled against duke was in the 97 acc tournament when we won the play in game then beat duke (#1 seed). and eventually lost to carolina in the final

but now i see them for what they are. just a bunch of arrogant douchebags that dont know shit about basketball... bunch of pussies that whine when they dont get their way.

god i fucking hate duke

Duke fans seem to have more respect and appreciation of their success than those students over at Orange County Teacher's College... I've been to the last two Duke games at Cameron and have pulled for Maryland and State in both... the fans were respectful and the atmosphere is unparalleled. I can't say the same for UNC. At Duke it feels like you are in some kind of time warp to 1950's Ra-Ra days...

And that weird sound is the students going Whooooop Whooooop louder and then soft

a friend of mine who's dad went to State back in the hey day, said that Reynolds could get so loud that if a Nuclear Bomb went off outside none of the fans inside would have heard it. that's just one of the many stories i've heard about the decibel level in Reynolds. i know that during a game at the RBC Center last year i saw the decibel meter sustained at 118 dB and jumped to 121 dB at one point.

I couldnt hear myself think after 3 games in my career at State

1) Duke in 04

2) Wake in 04(cause of the huge comeback)

3) VT game this fall in football.

I cant even imagine how lout Reynolds could get. It gets loud as fuck when someone makes a basket in the annual game there, but there isnt any sustained noise anymore like in the 3 games I mentioned. If I saw a real game there, I cant imagine it being quieter than Cameron...ever...and I've been to cameron. RBC got louder for those two games. It aint shit...just small and hot...and cool because of the student section being so close.

^^^ I went to a lot of reynolds games when i was little... probably 8 a year with my dad who had season tickets from 1993-whenever we left.

When we played a top-ranked team, win or lose, it was the most nuts I've ever heard a place. and these were the les robinson years. the only thing I've ever seen come close isn't the RBC, but RFK stadium when the skins played the cowboys, or this year's skins-cowboys game at fedex... but that's hard to compare.

the state-wake game last year was the loudest the RBC had been since that huge win over the terrence morris terps team on a game-winning gainey shot... and neither of those games were anywhere CLOSE to a normal ACC game in reynolds. place was AWESOME.

I think the Duke game in '04 was about the same, but we were nervous down the stretch since they wouldn't go away.

Duke game '04 was insane in terms of noise level. About halfway through the first half I realized that I had lost the hearing in my right ear, took it a few days to get back up to speed.

19-point comeback against Wake.

Marcus Melvin hits a three to complete the run.

That's the loudest I've heard the RBC on a basketball night.

i recently acquired a decibel meter this past fall. you think the RBC Center staff would let me bring it in. i could report back the loudest moment of each game. keep a little record like.

I went. Had a great time. Pack looked amazing and poised.... can't do much about a six point play... that was nasty.

Duke fans are so much nicer than UNC fans.

They used to say, "Hi ________, you suck!" (fill in the blank with whatever name you choose). But the administration and coaching staff, many years ago, asked that the crowd act a little more reasonable and whatnot. The students then turned a bit smartass and just left off the "you suck!" and that's the way it's been ever since. This is also why the students don't make some of the lowclass chants that they have in the past (including throwing panties on the court at a player who was arressted for rape or chanting "Inhale, Exhale" at a player that suffered a collapsed lung). As someone mentioned earlier, in the '80's the Crazies were much rowdier.

Quote :
"and what's with the weird sound they make.. i cant even describe it."

Could be a number of different things. It could be the "move" they do when Lee makes a basket, where they say "Lee, Lee, Lee" and then act as if they're all skiing. Or it could be any number of things they do when an opposing player is at the free throw line.

Quote :
"they're caricatures of themselves and haven't been "witty" in years"

Agreed. As noted earlier, they're sorta limited in some of the things they can say these days. Some of the more wittier chants back in the day were far more classless, but much funnier. The chants these days reflect as much.

Also, at the end of the game, they chanted "Drive home safely..."
