yeah you must've missed it last night when Gavin got basically 8 straight fastbreak points for us...perhaps you didnt realize that after Simmons, Gavin was our high scorer last night...no, you probably didnt realize it because it didnt rhyme with "Ire Ferb" 1/19/2006 10:38:07 AM |

^ And you'd be wrong on ALL counts.
That was ONE GAME. Gavin, in the vast majority of situations, is a turnover machine that really does very little for our team.
By your logic, Brackmen, Bennerman, Engin, and Tony are just horrible because they had lousy (scoring wise) games last night.
I was impressed w/ most of Gavin's work last night. But he still turned the ball over and looks like a schizo when he's dribbling. 1/19/2006 10:40:56 AM |

^^no...i agree with him...
gavin had 4 fast break layups...that doesn't mean that he was the second best player on the court for state. he makes a lot of unforced errors and forces a lot of bad shots...anyone on either team could have made the layups that gavin did last night. when he slows down and plays within the offense he is a great help to the team, but i don't think he's really done that yet this year...
he is very athletic though (see fast break layups)...

the reason there's a conflict here AT ALL is that trying to group Brackman and Simmons with Grant is like trying to group Jordan and Bird with Antonio McDyess.

^^^making soph. mistakes doesn't mean he sucks...he's learning to play within the system, and getting better as he's learning more...
just look at the difference between ced last year and this year. it's more difficult for an athletic slasher like gavin to adapt to our offense than a big man who spends most of his time as the pivot of the offense and not running off screens the whole game...
gavin is getting better with every game...i didn't mean it like he sucks...

well SouthPaW...you say you're on the fence...then you say most of the time he is a turnover machine and he does little for our team...but when he has a good game against the #1 team in the country, thats not representative of his actual playmaking...only knock i had on gavin last night was that three he took...definitely released on the way down...but if you dont want him to stay 4 years, i think you're retarded
now bethel...im on the fence about him...he can hit open 3's but he seems to have his head up his ass part of the time...like that inbounds turnover in the last minute or so of the game...he sees the ball going away, and instead of running towards the ball, he just gets a sad look on his face...step that shit up bethel, you're supposed to be the little general 1/19/2006 10:56:48 AM |

^ wowwwwwwwwwwww you are a true State fan
I'm all about blaming the refs, but you have GOT to be kidding me if you think they impeded our chances at winning last night. The calling was VERY fair considering it was 1) in Cameron and 2) against NC State.
I mean Ced NEVER, EVER, got into foul trouble while Sheldon did for a bit (and we went on an 8-0 run during that time he sat). The refs just GAVE us a charge call against Dockery that was just wtf-like.
They even gave us 10 extra seconds to win the game. If you are blaming the refs you really are an idiot. 1/19/2006 11:28:21 AM |

1. that 10 seconds didnt mean shit 2. Ced didnt get into foul trouble because he didnt commit fouls 3. i guess you can rationalize those bad calls since you expect it against Duke...well I'm sorry if I dont wanna suck K's cock like you
4. and i'm not blaming the refs...i was more impressed by how we were tied with 5 minutes left despite the refs...but for you to say there were only a few bad calls is more evidence that you must not have watched the game

1) Ced did a great job of keeping himself out of foul trouble. You could tell he's made definite progress on deciding when to go after someone in the paint and when to let it slide because the window's closed. That's an experience thing, and he's getting better as the season goes by.
2) Overall, the officiating did seem even (I'd say they were being extra careful because Clougherty was in the stands). However...
3) Redick seems to have some kind of halo around him that prevents him from ever being called for anything. 1/19/2006 11:59:09 AM |

"3) Redick seems to have some kind of halo around him that prevents him from ever being called for anything."
They missed one charge call on him last night where he charged and the refs called a block. But honestly he never really does anything that would warrant a foul; he doesn't drive all the way to the basket where he could get called for a foul (usually pulls up). On D, he never erally takes any charges and he is usually guarding a guard (obviously) so he isn't going to foul a jump shooter.
If anything, they give him too many calls when he goes into the lane loses the ball and throws his arms up and they give him a call

and dont forget that the only way he can get separation from a more athletic defender (aside from rolling through screens) is to push off

no...although he outplayed him head to head...shelden is still better...but do you honestly not think Ced should be the best center in the conference next year (ie, when Shelden is gone)? i'd still rather have jordan in 98-99 but he still passed the torch to iverson, kobe, etc1/19/2006 1:04:41 PM |

oh absolutely if he continues to improve at even half the rate he is now he will be at the top next year.

grant clears the defender EVERY time he dribbles. when he drives to the basket i swear its in slow motion. I am surprised (used to be shocked) whenever he actually makes the basket. I am also a nervous wreck when he starts dribbling outside the perimiter. 1/19/2006 1:30:30 PM |

Grant's screw up to awesomeness ratio is still really really bad, he just played well last night cause he's a good slasher and Duke is horrible at defending that.
Ced though, it was obvious leading up to this game that he has improved by leaps and bounds. I was worried going into this game as to how he would stack up with Sheldon and I was pleasantly surprised. Saying he's better than Sheldon, not 100% sure on just yet but he's way better than anybody expected I think. 1/19/2006 1:48:50 PM |
