Primarily ones that most people might not be familier with.I like a pretty wide variety of music, but plain ol' "normal" rock & roll is kinda hard to come by these days.I'll start:1. Drivin' & Cryin'2. Cry Of Love3. Casanovas4. Cross Canadian Ragweed5. Silvertide6. Buckcherry (maybe pushing the top-40 boundary of the genre a little, here, but I'd say they qualify...and I only know a handful of songs by them. The rest of their stuff could potentially suck.)6. Black Crowes (not obscure by any means, so i hesitate to mention them, but they're kind of the benchmark, and I've met plenty of people who've either never heard of them, or have heard of them, but have no idea who they are)

some bands that a lot of people might be interested that i just consider rock and roll that are out and still together right now: (not all are ones i love, but all are some i at least listen to some)LovedrugCelebrityClassic CaseCopelandForever ChangedJimmy Eat World (had some weak spots- ie bleed american- but solid otherwise..especially Clarity)MeWithoutYouMuseSilverchairShowbread
1/21/2006 1:42:37 AM
Silverchair is still putting out albums?
1/21/2006 2:13:31 AM
i guess their last one was a good 3 years ago now, but they are actually still together in some form.[Edited on January 21, 2006 at 2:17 AM. Reason : ]
1/21/2006 2:16:57 AM
Jimmy Eat World and Silverchair are not at all part of the genre I'm talking about. Not even close.and you'd be surprised how many people are clueless about the Black Crowes.
1/21/2006 2:43:43 AM
yea i know what all those bands sound like that you posted and i know the sound you were going for, however i just felt like contributing something
1/21/2006 2:51:41 AM
oki mean, the bands i listed don't all really sound the same (Silvertide vs Cross Canadian, for example...pretty different), but they're all strongly blues-based, traditional modern rock.
1/21/2006 2:55:53 AM
Why does it need to be modern? If you don't have all the Stones' albums (up to a point, obviously), you need them.

because there's no point in listing all the good traditional classic rock bands. there are only fortyeleven thousand of them. I mean, yeah, the Beatles and Stones are the shit, but (1) everyone knows the Beatles and Stones (2)they're a totally different sound.I know prob 95% of the good classic rock bands. I'm looking for new stuff.

^Yeah I would have to say no to Wilco..
1/21/2006 8:22:03 PM
^^^ deadboy & the elephentmen, huh... interesting to see dax mentioned in this thread. Anyway, dead boy's pretty damn good.
1/21/2006 8:27:03 PM
^^yeah, i tend to kinda associate them with Son Volt, but they really don't sound that much alike.
1/21/2006 8:32:05 PM
dax is one strange dude, eh?

AIM is pretty strange, too

I can't believe I forgot motherfucking Valient Thorr. They rock. REALLY FUCKING HARD.Cherry Valence is also excellent. The Spiders, from Austin TX (not the old soul group) are pretty damn good, too, though the vocals get a little odd here and there.

We were talking at work how Rock is nonexistent right now. We had trouble thinking of any notable rock bands that are even mildly successful right now. I love the Black Crowes. They were about 25 years too late, though.
1/22/2006 12:26:53 AM
^^ yea valient thorr is great.and i dont care what anyone else says the foo fighters are still a great "rock" band, especially compared to most other "rock" bands out there

Check out Limbeck. Their last album was great.
1/23/2006 11:02:02 PM
check out some of clutch's newer stuff, like from blast tyrant and robot hive/exodus . their earlier stuff is much more metal like. on the last two they've begun to incorporate a much more classic rock sound, you notice a lot more of a doors sound on robot hive/exodus. no matter which cd of theirs ya listen to though, there will be bunches of metaphors that you don't quite get.you might try kings of leon as well, but they are borderline the profile you gave.
