If so, it may have began with the Chris Paul cheap shot on Julius Hodge in Raleigh last year. Prior to the regular season ending game in Raleigh, Wake Forest had won 10 of their previous 11 games. Because of the "cruel intentions" of Chris Paul, he was suspended from the first round game of the ACC tournament. That resulted in NC State spanking Wake by 16! After that, Wake rebounded with a win over the power house of Chattanooga, but was quickly removed from the NCAA tournament in the second round by WVU. Maybe Wake lost confidence in the team after the Paul/Hodge incident. Maybe if Wake had finished stronger, Paul wouldn't have left. On April 14, 2005, Paul announced he was leaving for the NBA Draft. Granted, Paul may have left anyway because of his NBA potential. However, if Paul had stayed, Wake may not be 1-4 in the conference right now! I just don't see Wake finishing strong in the conference this year without Paul... Maybe this trend of losing games will continue, which will affect recruiting, which may bring Wake off of their high horse!

NOTE: This is pure speculation! What's your opinion?

i think paul was gone regardless, and that caused the collapse. he's still a jackass though.

You heard it here first, on 1/24/06.

Skip Prosser is gone after this year. He is leaving for Cinci - Wake is already searching for a Head Coach.

If Cinci hires him after this abomination of a season, they're idiots.

Chris Paul will be rooke of the year for the NBA, pretty sure it wasnt just the Hodge incident that led to the demise...Paul is that good and talented, thats why he left early. Wake has gone down hill due to the fact that they dont play real defense unless its inside the paint and they dont have the offensive weapons this year in Paul to score high enough to run and gun with teams.

I know the rumor had been floating, but Wake is actually looking for replacements.

Its oddly similar to the Odom situation - they don't really seem to mind his leaving.

They shouldn't mind.

He's shown basically no improvement. Complaints about his first couple of teams were that they were poor defensively and couldn't hack it in the postseason. Now they still don't play defense and suck in the postseason.

And this season, you're actually seeing his coaching at work, rather than a star player pick up the slack to overcome it.

Why would Cincy want Prosser? It is easy to see that he just cannot coach defense. You are never going to be successful in the postseason without good defense.

By the way, Wake will not win more than 5 conference games this year

didn't prosser get a big fat extension just last year? pitt came calling and he almost left, but the wake students surrounded his office crying or something. i can't imagine wake would give up on their investment that easily

WVU coach aint goin anywhere, hes just like Herb in the terms of 'being on the short list' run basically the same offense as it is anyways...with that team doing as well as it is and it will be, hes gonna stay for awhile.

I can't see why Belein would leave WVU--he has that program in a great place right now, and it's not like moving to Wake is really a step up.

Moving to Wake from WVU is a step up. It may not seem like it now given that Wake's record sucks and WVU's is a lot better, but the ACC is a very prestigeous conference to be a member of, if not the most prestigeous. Granted, that doesn't mean coaches immedietly join the ACC just as soon as they can, but I'm sure "ACC" is on Belein+others' mind.

Yeah the Big East is really a step down from the ACC in basketball these days. UCONN doesnt play in their conference anymore, and they lost a bunch of really good teams in Miami and VT. Too bad they couldnt replace them with better teams

Not sure it can be considered a collapse when Prosser has never won an ACC Tourney game. He is not a good coach and they have been coming up small the entire time he has been there.

This is a completely different topic, but if you arguing that the Big East is on the same level as the ACC then I think you're dillusional. Just ask the Big Ten.

BC was to get the ACC into the Boston media market.

Maryland already has the ACC in the DC area market.

They(G Town) are D-2 in football or maybe D-3 so it wouldn't be worth the time to develop them, and when you consider that the expansion was done solely for football it doesnt make any sense.

^^nobody in Boston gives two craps about the ACC or Boston College

I'd like to see the coach at Davidson get a shot at WF, or Jerry Wainwright, the old UNCW coach that's at (I believe) Richmond now.

What you got to remember about the expansion in reguards to BC is that the conference originally approached Syracuse instead of VT. But UVA and the state of Virginia stepped in and started to whine and what we were left with was one northern school (aside from Maryland) left by itself.

skip has to be gone. There is way too much talent on that team for them to be struggling as much as they have. They should atleast be in the race for 2nd place in ACC.
