suck! I applied there and paid the fees, but due to their computer errors and continual losing of data it looks like no matter how many time I submit materials, that eventually my completed application becomes partial.

They've lost my main letter of reccomendation 3 times now (from a prof I've had classes with & got a research grant in my field with). They admitted to the problems the first few times, but now that things are past the deadlines I think they are just going to take my money and not give me full consideration. And I'm afraid I'm only pissing them off with continually pestering them about losing materials.

You sure its the school, or the individual department who lost the letter(s) of recommendation? You tried calling them and talking to them about their computer system?

Also don't feel too bad ... graduate school admissions need improvement at a LOT of universities. I didn't get informed until a week before I graduated whether I would get into grad school at NC State ... already had other plans but thats really not cool. Virginia Tech almost "lost" the application for my fiancee because it switched hands so many times.

One of my friends is applying for PhD. stuff and had a helluva time with someone saying they lost part of the application. She called them up and they were like...sorry can't find it, try again.

She had her adviser (who was also one of the people who wrote her recommendation) call, who just so happens to be big fairly big time in her field, and the graduate director found the application why they were on the phone.

So if you have anyone like that who can help you out...be sure to use it.

^^^ I didn't apply to UVa for the sole reason that I didn't like their interface. But if it makes you feel any better, Michigan lost my trancript, and I paid for that shit.

I got lucky - only one school thought they'd lost something, but when I sent them the dates/times submitted i could see in the computer system, they could find it. I've heard of a lot of people having issues though. Did you save or print copies of the application before submitting it online? In light of all this trouble, they may accept the mailed copy. Can't hurt to ask. Having a professor call on your behalf is also a great idea.

UVa wasn't the only grad school I applied to that has lost stuff, but they are the only ones that keep losing the same thing. Its the Grad Admission Department thats losing it I think, because they are the ones responsible for passing it own to the individual department. The person who wrote the letter has talked to them on the phone about the situation (where UVa admitted faught) and said things were better... but they keep falling apart again.

Let me see what I can do to help. PM and let me know the department, degree you are applying to. I have done graduate admissions at another university. I am a UVA alum and the president of the university is a family friend. Let me know what is supposedly lost, what you have resent, what they say is still missing and how much of it you can replace. What is their on time deadline and do they have a closing date for considering students (most admissions offices- even at selective schools will consider a good applicant long into the admissions cycle).
