Pentium-M or Core Duo (or Core Solo if you are cheap).
Just look at the benchmarks. 1/26/2006 4:26:03 PM |

Pentium-M
NOT the core duo. Core Duo systems have terrible battery life, not because of the cpu, but the rest of the stuff they pack in em. 1/26/2006 5:08:24 PM |

uh, there is no such thing as a Centrino processor. It's a Pentium-M. Centrino is just a marketing name to denote the use of a P-M, i8x5 northbridge, and an intel pro wireless card. 1/26/2006 5:26:39 PM |

^^^ that's not what i meant...i thought they offered p4's as p4-m's and then p4-m's with centrino...so it would seem to me that if you're going to say a p4-m is the good (or bad or whatever), you should specify whether or not you're using a p4-m or a p4-m with centrino 1/26/2006 7:02:51 PM |

"Centrino" labeled laptops ONLY use Pentium-M processors. Not Pentium 4's, not pentium 4 mobiles. 1/26/2006 7:10:15 PM |

the amd64 mobile chips are actually pretty good with cool and quiet enabled, as well as having a much higher clock speed and a ton of memory bandwidth.
depends on what compromises you are willing to make in performance for battery life, pM wins on pure battery life though

turion is... OK... but yeah in terms of performance+batterylife the Pentium M's win quite handily. No core duo laptops are shipping yet, and most of the numbers on the battery life that I've seen has been pretty good. Of course if it's in a system with a geforce 7800 go or something and a 7200 rpm harddrive it's going to take a hit.
