This is the story of talented and tormented Daniel Johnston, a manic-depressive genius singer/ songwriter/ artist, revealed in this portrait of madness, creativity and love.

I had never heard of this film until about five minutes ago. Truth be told, I'd never heard of Daniel Johnston. But damn, I REALLY wanna see this movie.

Just watch the trailer: http://www.apple.com/trailers/sony/devilanddanieljohnston/trailer/

BAD. ASS.

I saw Daniel Johnston at Kings a few years back. One of the songs he plunked out on his parlor-sized acoustic was the most beautiful song about unreciprocated love I've ever heard. Unfortunately, as far as I know, it's not on any of his recordings.

I bought a t-shirt with one of his drawings of Captain America on it and asked him to sign it. He wrote his name in gigantic letters across the front. I need to frame that shit.

Wesley Willis was an extremely friendly person and a fantastic visual artist, but his music was all gimmick. Daniel Johnston can write a fucking pop song.

i think he had some songs on the Kids movie soundtrack. he also sings on an Okkervil River song.

i never really knew what his deal was, but those few songs that i've heard, i liked.

^^ ?

It still isn't coming out for a while. And there's a point for any given movie at which I have not yet heard about it.

Showtimes this week are 1:40, 4:25, 7:15, and 9:35 (but no 9:35 show on Friday). Student tickets are $5.50, PBR is $2.00, so, basically, you can't go wrong with this one.

This movie is beautiful.

And sad.

But really good. Like, REALLY good. I liked it way more than I'd expected I would.

This definitely gets my seal of approval. A lot like New York Doll, but FAR more epic.

The brother of Daniel's best friend that's interviewed in the movie a lot came to see it tonight. That was somewhat neat.

This brings a tear to my eye, but Thursday will be the last day we'll be showing The Devil and Daniel Johnston. I would highly recommend coming out to see it, and hopefully somebody else will pick it up/keep it after we're done with it.

His organaire sounds about 10x better than mine did before I threw it the fuck out.

All you could hear was me mashing on the keys. Shit takes like five seconds to make a damn note.

'Twas good. The plane story was CRAZY.

It wasn't a revelation of a film from my perspective, but I've also got shit-tons of Johnston stuff so I already knew a lot of the deal. God knows how much archival stuff they culled this from, though.

I saw it Saturday; it was awesome.

By the way, are you in charge of the music or something over there spooky? I heard I'm From Barcelona playing.

Looks like another shitty documentary about some fucked up obscure musician to me.
