maybe the second half fouls starting off 11-3 in favor of clemson?
I thought that was cool and also completely legitimate.

How about the clemson guy that slipped just like bennerman did and ced got called for the foul...i mean that was probably a good call, considering ced was within 5 feet of him when he fell.
Or the walk they called on Atsur. This one really wasnt that bad of a call at first , but the replay clearly showed he didnt have posession when he fell. Of course the bastard shouldnt have held onto the ball that long anyway, so whatever.
Oh there was one over the back on clemson that would probably have been a good no-call..considering B-rack just stood there with his hands up waiting for the rebound. If anything should have been called, its over the back, but b-rack got called for the foul. I guess you're not allowed to jump straight up for a rebound anymore.
And the foul count was 10-3 at one point...maybe worse than that in favor of clemson(^ok 11-3, beat me to it).
Gimmie the DVD of the game i'll find a few more. I'm sure we had a few calls go our way that shouldnt have, but they got way more.

Actually, about half left while they still had a descent chance. Then EVERYONE left when we had it clinched. I even saw plenty of people leave at the start of the second overtime.
My favorite though was it was so quite for 90% of the game you could hear the ball bounce, then as soon as they tie it up, the place starts to cheer.1/29/2006 8:13:52 PM |

What did the foul calls end up being in our game after it being 10-3? I would fathom it got to within 1-2 of each other. Does anyone else ever notice how the foul count always seems close in every game? When we were playing Wake, they mentioned how it was 6-0 in fouls for Wake vs Us in the second half, and I immediately told my boy they'll never let that happen and will attempt to even it up. And I shit you not within 2 minutes of bball time we had 3 straight (2 VERY questionable) fouls called on us. 1/29/2006 11:53:06 PM |

^I've been saying that for the longest time. John Swofford is a former Morehead scholar, quarterback/linebacker, Athletics director, plus he has two different places on campus named for him. Please, please lie to me and tell me that he's completely fair and unbiased. Then I will proceed to laugh my ass off, and roll my eyes. ACC most definitely has a UNC bias, and it starts at the top. ^^John Swofford is not the head of officiating....in fact I imagine he has nothing to do it
John Clougherty took over last year for Fred Barakat (who now focuses on ACC tournament)
for all of you with these crazy ideas that officials are against nc state, John lives in Raleigh and both his sons attended school here...in fact....one of his sons was back-up catcher on the baseball team

^John Clougherty may be head of officiating, but John Swofford ultimately runs the show. What John Swofford wants, he gets. Explain who does the scheduling in conference. Somehow we wind up going to Clemson two years in a row with no return trip to Raleigh??? That's crap also. Plus in football we only play Duke twice every six years. That is crap. There is a definite UNC slant to the ACC, and I would have no doubts that John Swofford was in on the hiring of Roy Williams and in on recruitment of UNC athletes.... 2/3/2006 8:41:58 AM |

Well, then someone at the ACC screwed up royally. It should be a home and home. It's kinda hard not to say that the ACC has a UNC bias when the commisioner is a HUGE UNC homer....
Not going for the conspiracy theory here.... Conspiracy implies that there is something undercover that is taking place in order to create a desired situation. John Swofford proudly wears his Carolina tie or lapel pin. There is no doubt that he has a bias when he only shows up for Carolina games. No conspiracy, just straight up bias.

More goes into scheduling games than just trying to make everything fair.
The ACC added 2 teams last year and another this year - everything is going to seem crazy for a while.
New UNC Conspiracy...
FSU was added to the ACC so that NC State would have to play an extra game (the Les Robinson Classic) in the ACC tournament. THOSE UNC BASTARDS. 2/3/2006 8:54:56 AM |
JWHWolf All American 3320 Posts user info edit post |
Our AD also didn't go to school here, play sports here, have things named after him here.... Lee Fowler is from MTSU or ETSU, and he has been a model AD. The ACC needs someone that didn't go to a member school, someone who has no bias toward one school in the conference. No matter how professional he is, he's still going to be a UNC athletic alum. I'm not proposing that an NC State grad be placed at the top, but I do not think that Swofford is the right guy for the job. He got what he wanted with expansion. John Clougherty is a great hire because he has no bias. Clougherty went to WKU. I don't like it when the head of a conference or university system is from one of the member institutions. I don't like Erskine Bowles being at the top of the UNC system. He will put UNC-CH's needs first, guaranteed. I don't like bias, one way or another. I want to see fair officiating, fair administrating, and fair play. Also, I don't like that all of the highest positions in NC are held by UNC alums. 2/3/2006 9:01:33 AM |

I know that we are better than UNC-CH. I am not envious of what they have or don't have. I am just tired of their alum's being Governor/ACC Commish/President of the UNC system. We have the power to put our alums in these positions, and I am just trying to bring attention to this gross oversight in judgement that has caused UNC alums to be put in these positions. When Easley comes up for reelection in 08, I will be voting for someone who is not a UNC grad, just like I did in 00 and 04. I want Erskine out and I want Swofford gone.
I don't have an inferiority complex. I have a future brother-in-law who graduated from UNC-CH in 99, and he still lives at home and has no job. Why would I find myself inferior to that? I graduated and had a great job within two weeks. I just hate their false sense of entitlement and arrogance. Their elitism makes me sick, because I know that we have a better school, a bigger school, and an alumni that could easily turn NC red. I would love it if Hugh Shelton ran for office in NC....
Again, I was commenting on ACC officiating being teh sux0rs, and since John Swofford is the Commisioner the blame should go to him. Heads of officiating have continued to change, and yet officiating continues to suck. Not just for our games.... Duke/BC, UNC/UMD, GT/Clemson all sucked. 2/3/2006 10:57:33 AM |

Quote : | ""(Greensboro, NC) Atlantic Coast Conference Commissioner John Swofford announced today that a foul is tentatively scheduled to be called against Duke sometime in the first half of their game with UNC in Chapel Hill, next Tuesday, February 7th.
In a joint press conference with Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski, and ACC Director of Officials John Clougherty, Swofford said an agreement had been reached for a touch foul to be whistled on as-yet-to-be-determined Blue Devil player around the 7:00 minute mark during the first half of the game at the Smith Center.
"We are very excited to arrange something that hasn't been seen in our conference since 1998," said Swofford. "I want to personally commend Mike {Krzyzewski} for agreeing to this uncoventional deal. We all know how reluctant he has been to allow any calls to go against his team."
Krzyzewski insisted that this move was purely a gesture of generosity aimed at rehabilitating his public image in light of recent lip-synching fiascos during several nationally televised games. "The camera did not catch me really uttering the BS-word during my argument with the official the other night. Those really were my lips moving but I wasn't really yelling the word. I'm sure our fans will understand."
"Mike is being a really good sport about this," noted UNC coach Roy Williams. "This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to play them with a foul being called against their squad, and to have it happen here in front of the home crowd will be especially enjoyable for our fans."
Clougherty says that unless unforeseen intimidation happens during the game, that the scheduled foul should occur without a hitch. "It all depends on whether Coach K holds up his end of the bargain and promises not to harass our crew that evening."
Clougherty also said not to expect any more fouls to be called against Duke this season, but did not rule out the possibility of another one being called in an exhibition game in November 2006. "The Duke AD told me that they are trying to schedule Marathon Oil for a pre-season game next year and we are in discussions about perhaps calling another foul against Duke in that match-up if everyone can come to terms."
The officiating crew for the Duke vs. UNC game will not be announced publicly prior to the game in order to protect their privacy. Swofford said he anticipated a media barrage and did not want the referees to be distracted from their big task at hand. "This is a big deal and a momentous occasion for the league. We need our employees to remain focused so that they can complete their jobs in what could end up being a very difficult situation."
Game Notes: If the foul occurs on February 7th, it will be the 27th foul called against the Blue Devils in their basketball history...........Dick Vitale and Mike Patrick will be handling the TV play by play for ESPN. Vitale says he has no idea what he will say when the foul is called against Duke but he has been placed on a prescription sedative as a preventive measure. (Patrick could not be reached for comment, and was last seen entering a tanning salon in Durham with a picture of JJ Redick)......... A CBS 60 Minutes television crew is planning to attend the game to catch the event on tape for an upcoming expose on the Duke Basketball program and how Mike Krzyzewski uses friendships and loyalty to advance his own agenda."" |

To his credit, the UNC grad has tried to find jobs, and just hasn't had any luck. He's not as arrogant as most UNC grads (likely due to his parents upbringing).
