I want to ask everyone to take a seriously look at the thread in Chit Chat that lists all of the "TWW Ugly people".


Please let me know what you think are social consequences to this thread? Any observations? I just want to hear other people's thoughts.

I like to think that this is the same as our (society's) obsession with celebrity fuckups and going ons..... I dont see this as being any different. and if you are being serious, it will probably hurt the people on there, assuming that most people on here with thousands of posts probably spend way to much time on here anyway... this probably cant be good. After 3 years i am still amazed how people get there posts up that high and still leave their rooms....

If you’re just here for discussion you don’t have to put up pics… I think getting on the internet and putting your pics out there means you are knowingly subjecting yourself to criticism. Its not a very nice thing to do, but not unexpected.

Consequences? None different than the consequences of our society at large.

And by at large I mean anyone over 100 pounds and above a size 6 is huge and fat and should be banned from walking in public apparently.
And you better hope you're not ugly even if you are small, and if you're big and ugly ah just kill yourself.

Lets just breed another generation obsessed with looks where noone is ever happy with themselves.

So what if there's something fundamentally wrong with it, sure there is, but the better question is - does it matter? Since when did 90% of society give a fuck about anyone but themselves?

Generally if you're actually ugly, you probably already know it and a thread on the internet is only going to reinforce that.
It's just bad when people post saying someone is ugly and really they are just average-looking at worst.
People on TWW seem a little more critical than people in the real world, and everyone should know not to take anything on here too seriously.

in general, i'd consider that thread and others like it just to be a reminder of the worst in people. for some reason, when people get online, they feel free and anonymous. the internet tends to bring the worst out in people really. they use it as a way to make themselves feel better about their own shortcomings. not really much different from everday life in that respect.

and it is stupid to blame the poster of the pic. why should they not post them? i mean is the whole purpose of the board to make fun of people? i don't think so. some people have friends on here. some use it as storage. is it strange to expect people to NOT make fun of you based on appearances? i guess it is. is it too much to ask that people behave the way they would in real life. i guess it is. sad, i think.

for those with low self esteem, i can see nothing but more damage. the media already does enough but oh well, more. for those with high self esteem, hopefully they can see it for what it is - people's pitiful attempt at making themselves feel better.

but either way, i wonder if people who posted in that thread in a mean spirited way (joking of course is a whole different story), feel anything. or do they honestly think the people they are making fun of really and truly just say "oh well, its just the internet". insults are insults.

I disagree with this sentiment of those poor average-looking people have to get lumped in with those actually bad ugly-looking thing.

Your problem seems to be not that people are devaluing ugly people, but that there is an inaccurate measure of ugliness.

Whatever your reason for putting pictures of yourself in public, they are still in public. It is strange to expect that people wont judge you on your appearance while at the same time putting stock in such subjective judgments.

If you think that people can't accurately judge appearance, and that even if they could it doesn't matter because appearance isn't important... then why get offended by people wasting their breath with stupid judgments.

It seems like the only way people could be hurt by this is if they already put stock in attractiveness, and then found out they weren't as attractive as they thought.

I don't even both with looking at the thread. Yeah sure, it's controversial just by virtue of the name, it's long, whatever, but I don't care enough about your (as in, TWW) opinion of my looks. This could be because I'm detached from every user of TWW; I haven't met any of you IRL and there's not a very human chance that I will, but that's not what I'm here for anyway.

Certainly there are some folks that joined this site purely as a medium to meet others, and I could see the context of the thread offending them if they're called out. But as has been said here before, and I'm not trying to be exhaustive, if you put your self out there -- ANYWHERE -- you should be mentally braced to take criticism and compliments just the same.

First of all, people must get over the fact that ugly is a relative term. Some people's level of attractiveness is relative to the person that you ask, however, some people are just generally unattractive. You must first be comfortable with who you are and your appearance before you post a picture in public like that so you can handle the criticism that comes, and yes it is coming. Despite what everyone's mother tells them, everyone is not "beautiful" to the world. No, I do not think you should call your kids ugly or anything like that, but everyone needs a little self-awareness about EVERYTHING, not just their outward appearance.

oh sure... but there is a difference between judging someone and actually coming out and saying it. i find it hard to believe that some of the people saying things like "thunder thighs", "OH MY FUCKING GAWD!!!! this bitch is terrible, " etc. would do so in real life. i don't see why people posting a pic should HAVE to expect to be ridiculed in the way that some people are in that thread. to me that thread is just a bunch of people with low self esteem hiding behind a computer screen.

and sure, ideally, people wouldn't actually care what others say. but not everyone has that kind of self esteem. that is reality. and it sucks that some people have nothing better to do than make fun of people for stuff they don't really have control over. it is pathetic really.

people make fun of others in real life too, behind closed doors. the difference is, these ppl are in their own thread making fun of ppl they see in galleries (vs someone they saw walking down the street or at burger king).

first off, i'm not used to serious responses to my thread. There wasn't even the usual preliminary hating that I usually have to muddle through.

secondly- I was noticing (this is what made me start this thread) that most of the pictures are of females.


Which brings me to the arrival of some serious disgust. The "picture" threads in CC are of either "hot" women or "ugly" women..........This must be confusing for so many young ladies out there (myself included) to see what most (active users) guys on this board consider attractive vs. unattractive.

Where is the acknowledgement of women who are really nice? women who have done something nice for somebody? women who have made great achievements? Of course. There never will be any of those. Because they're not interesting? Perhaps. Or could it be because it erodes at the self-righteous, self-appointed superiority complex that so many men believe.

What a whiny thread. Anyone who takes anything these people say on here or IRL is an idiot. If females are so weak minded to be broken by this, then the problem is with them not the guys.
