how the fuck do you have so much time to read every single internet article, blog, and forum out there on every single topic in the world?
and then keep them sorted so you can reply to random-ass posts on tdub?

errrmmm.... i wasn't aware i was doing so - i figured I was just doing my best to keep up with the rest of you geeks out there seriously though - if there's a discussion about Google or Excel, or maybe The Office and 24, i'm all over it, but i didn't even realize that it could be noted that I "reply to random-ass posts". examples?
BUT, assuming it's true, here's your answer - http://bloglines.com/public/joelion
That collection of ~100 blogs/news sites basically gives me everything I need to know (and much more) to keep up on daily conversations from tech, Google/seach, security, news, politics, money, investing, TV and humor. As that list unfortunately continues to grow, I move more and more to the 'zzzzz' folder, which I generally just "mark all as read" every few days without even looking in it. I only actually read that folder maybe every 2-3 weeks, when i just look through the headlines. The sites in that folder accumulate posts way too quickly - engadget, boing boing, Wired and The Motely Fool can have dozens of posts a day.
But I keep up with all the articles in the other folders, and truthfully I only fully read maybe 1/3rd of them - the rest I just read the headline or teaser. And I've been trying to cut way back on my Bloglines reading at work - it is a complete time waster/killer because if you sit there all day and refresh it, you'll basically have something new to read every minute. So I clear out all unreads in the morning (which there are a lot of because I'm in Germany and go to bed before much of the posts from the US are made), check it twice during the day (i try, at least), then again in the evening. Even if I only check it 4 times a day, it still takes up too much time - being somewhat obsessive-compulsive about this stuff, I have a very very hard time 'marking all read' without actually reading it first, or, e.g., going to bed without making sure I have a clean Bloglines slate.
.... and don't kissy face me.... creeps me out, man 1/31/2006 10:17:06 AM |
